A Different Twist on DME Phone Calls

Post by RobertS975 » Wed Jul 23, 2014 8:22 pm

So several times over the past 5 months of CPAP use, I have received a robo-call (recording) from my DME saying that I was eligible for certain supplies, and if I wanted everything that I was eligible to receive, press #1. Having a 10% co-pay on this equipment and supplies, I certainly wanted to go over each item to see if I needed it, whether it was for a mask or device that I am no longing using etc.

I find that practice irritating... more evidence that regardless of the benefits of CPAP therapy, it is a big business out there.

That would irritate me, too! I guess I don't have a solution for it, other than to hang up, or call the DME and tell them not to waste your time with those calls; that you will let them know when you are in need of something - you don't have a lot of storage space for items you don't need yet.

Get a answering machine, set it up to screen calls (pick up on first ring), the dialer will realize the screening and hang up, then after a few tries they will start live dialing you. Greed is hard to stop.

Call the DME and tell them to stop calling or you will switch to another DME. Medicare has a rule that forbids DMEs from calling patients.

A former DME was sending robo-calls to both of us.
I had to call them and remind them that we had not bought anything from them for years, and,
"please stop that."
