5 nights in-my numbers

Post by Tailgate » Mon Jul 21, 2014 10:32 am

Greetings all... 5 nights in and here are my SH numbers. I'm still at the bottom of the learning curve on what they really mean, so any insight is appreciated from this very helpful group.

Untreated AHI = 16.9
Average of 5 nights with CPAP= 6.8 (AHI was a low of 4.37 and a high of 9.24)
Average pressure= 9.15
Average leak rate= 2.49

I still don't understand the leak rate significance. I am less sleepy during the daytime, but from reading on the forum I know this is a marathon not a sprint. Thanks all...

How many hours did you sleep with the mask on each night? Are you using software to analyze your results? SleepyHead is beta software, but it is free and very good at letting you see how you are doing. When was the low, and when was the high? Numbers can be higher than one would wish for the first few nights as we get used to the new reality of having the mask on our faces. So, overall, I should say congratulations on the great progress so far - keep it up, and it will get better.

I've averaged 7 hours 11 minutes with the mask on.. longer than I ever thought I could tolerate it.

I'm not familiar with the PR machines and their leak values.

But leak rate becomes important if they are significant enough to prevent the machine from treating your obstructions. But even small leaks can be significant if they disturb your sleep.

As you procede down this marathon, you'll begin to learn how leaks affect your sleep quality and AHI

Keep up the good work!!!

Oh, this page?

Leak rate is an indication of how well your mask is sealing. Lower is better, it'll never be zero because some leaks out by design. Yours is very good.
