"Analyses demonstrated that higher total testosterone level strongly correlated with more shallow sleep. This association, Van Cauter said, was independent from the presence of other factors known to decrease sleep quality, such as age, race/ethnicity and OSA severity. Because doctors are increasingly prescribing testosterone replacement therapy for middle-aged and older men with low testosterone levels, Van Cauter said, 'Further studies are needed to clarify the impact of testosterone replacement on sleep quality, especially sleep depth.' "

They appear to mean low sleep quality, or as they put it, "wak[ing] up easily and feel[ing] unrested." Although they also seem to hint at less slow-wave (or, "deep") sleep in general, on average.Guest wrote:What do they mean by shallow?
The sleep comments and descriptions are not well worded in what I linked to, since they seem to be trying to oversimplify the findings. But it underscores the fact that any drug or hormone will have some effect on sleep, and the effect may be highly individual, in the sense of having more of an effect on one person's sleep than on another person's sleep.
Although the finding may, of course, be more related to what testosterone treats than to what it causes. That's just the nature of statistical association.
In my opinion.

Good science is always wishy-washy, I believe, according to my understanding, as far as I know, in my opinion, at least in many instances, on average, anecdotally speaking, at least sometimes, either individually or overall, according to the literature, as a rule of thumb.Guest wrote:Seem wishy- washy.
