Philips Respironics System One - Humidifier Failing

Post by BradOSU99 » Mon Jul 21, 2014 9:20 am

I have had the Philips Respironics System One with Humidifier for about 4 years. It's worked great until recently I've gotten a humidifier error and the humidifier has stopped working. There's no visible reason I can see why it won't work. The system is clean and the electronic connectors look good. I also have not spilled or dropped it in any way.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem? Is there a way to fix it? Am I out of luck. I saw I could just buy a new humidifier, but I'm not confident the new one will work because I don't know if the problem is specifically with the humidifier or perhaps something on the CPAP machine part.

If anyone has any insight that might allow me to fix this problem, I would love to hear it. If you have questions, I should be able to respond quickly. Thank you in advance.

Have you asked your dealer about it?

It might be a component on your blower unit that has failed (rare but not impossible) so before buying a new humidifier can you take your blower unit to whomever supplied your equipment and at least check to see if another humidifier will even work?
I know of a couple of people who had an electronic component in the blower get messed up and caused the humidifier to not be recognized (or work) by the blower unit. They found this out when they bought a new humidifier and the new one wouldn't work either.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately my "dealer" is in Ohio and I now live in Albuquerque, NM. So taking it to my dealer is not possible. Any other suggestions? I was hoping there might be some kind of software related fix I could try.

Do you have a backup machine?
If you do then sending your main machine to ACCBio to get an estimate of the repair cost might make sense.
You machine information is not displaying so I assume that it is no longer available.
In that case, you could make it a comment in your signature block.

You apparently have a series 50 machine. These come available from time to time on Craigslist and on SecondWind so it may be possible to pick up a lightly used machine for not too high a price.
Every once and a while, they are made available for sale on the list.
Finally, you might drop a PM to STLMark who sometimes has or can get machines at attractive prices.

Its always good to have a backup machine just for times like this.
While you are thinking about what to do, you can use your humidifier in passover mode by keeping it filled with water. That will get you some humidity and not leave you completely dry.
