How Many on this forum also have Atrial Fibrillation, GERD,

Post by Lannie » Thu Apr 24, 2014 1:50 pm

I am curious as to how many others have GERD, and/or Atrial Fibrillation since being on cpap therapy. I would also like to know if others have vision going blurrier because of mask leakage into the eyes.

Has anyone found a way to prevent air blowing into the eyes especially when the sleeper tosses and turns all night? What have you found to be the best full face mask that keeps air from blowing into the eyes? How do you protect your eyes from the air?

Hope to hear from some fellow A Fibbers on here.

I had GERD and Atrial Fibrillation for years before I started CPAP therapy. I started using my machine in December of 2013 and have not had an episode of either since. In fact my Cardiologist is the one that suggested that I have a sleep study done. I sure am glad he did!

I am wondering if my problem with not being able to heal the GERD might be because I am a mouth breather. I use a full face mask, Res Med Quattro Pro, but get a lot of leaking around my eyes as I toss and turn a lot every night while sleeping. Although I try to keep my mouth closed it is obviously opening while asleep. Because my mouth is so dry, I wake up to rinse my mouth as it feels like sandpaper inside with total dryness. This does not happen every night but mostly when I am stuffed up.

What type of mask do you use? I cannot use the pillows and must use a full face mask. Do you know of any full face masks that do not blow air into the eyes?

I have been faithfully using the cpap for 7 years without fail. I have also been using the same mask.

You can Google sleep masks and find ones that look suitable to wear under your Cpap mask... I understand ones called Onyx are supposed to be good, but have never tried any, but the type of mask is supposed to be helpful with air-eye leaks, though it might be a good idea for you to try other Cpap masks too.

Thank you, Julie

I haven't been on the forum for years so haven't heard of the sleep masks. I will google them. That would be great to get rid of the air blowing into my eyes as it also causes my eyelids to swell up.
