TO SLEEP ........a poem

To Sleep


To sleep
Such an easy thing to do
As easy as breathing for you
To dream
To rest
To refresh
Who knew sleep could delude?

To sleep
Only to awaken
To have your world shaken
By your body turning on you

It’s only sleep
Such an easy thing to do
They don’t understand, nor do you
It’s only sleep
Try a pill
Drink warm milk
Mind over body
And for god’s sake, get some sleep

It’s only sleep
Why do I feel as I do?
There are worse things in life for you
A heart to burst
Loss of a job, or worse
A crash and loss of life
All because of sleep

To sleep
Should be an easy thing to do
Certainly as easy as breathing for you
But not to dream
Never to rest
Never be refreshed
Increasingly depressed
What could possibly be wrong with you?

Your sleep,
Your doctor suddenly tells you
Could be a condition, ….who knew?
A reason you’re wasted
You could get tested
This is not your fault
Simply a matter of your body turning on you

It’s your sleep
Not such an easy thing for you
But there’s something you can do
Breath in life
It’s your right
Take a look around and you might
Find you’re not alone

Our sleep
We who sleep as you
We who suffer alone as you do
Something misunderstood
A condition that could
Have a solution for you

If you’re willing to commit
To sleep
