Re: Canadians - What is the pressure range to qualify for A-Pap?

I don't see why the doctor cannot put a range of 8.5 to 12.5 so I can have a machine that will treat my AHI and allow me to have a comfortable sleep rather than lower my pressure which won't get the ones that come during rem or when I am stuffed up. Would that be illegal for him to do that? OHIP AD...

Re: Canadians - What is the pressure range to qualify for A-Pap?

And just another thought - if you get 'stuffed up' a lot, have you tried turning down your humidifier in case it's causing congestion as it can for some people (like me)? You certainly don't need to use it for therapy or compliance(!) unless you like it and it helps your Cpap experience. Julie, I h...

Re: ADP changes to CPAP in Ontario

I have a very close girlfriend that was a reporter here in Toronto for a well known media outlet but has since had a succession of 3 brain tumours and although she survived each one, has now developed a disease as well. The name slips my mind at the moment but because of it she developed a Moon sha...

Re: Canadians - What is the pressure range to qualify for A-Pap?

Thank you Julie, and Nick Danger I am covered for 75% but must pay the other 25% for ADP (assisted Devices Program) in Ontario. I am not covered for supplies including mask seals 90.00 for Quattro pro seal. I am a senior turning 70 in a few months. When my cpap machine broke down I was told by a dme...

Canadians - What is the pressure range to qualify for A-Pap?

I just recently had another sleep study after seven years and had been on a pressure of 9cm for a long time and doing well. That changed this past year and the sleep doc said I needed a pressure of 11-12cm. I tried a straight pressure at 11cm for 4 nights and was so sleep deprived, bad headaches tha...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

Lannie, one of the safest, inexpensive, and often effective methods to stimulate the flow of digestive juices prior to eating is to use a vagal response of the tongue to get things going. In order to stimulate this response you need to just taste something bitter about 10 minutes prior to eating. A...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

[ quote="musculus"]1. Pressure change should always be done gradual and slow, and with careful review of CPAP data. 2. Untreated sleep apnea will lead to a whole lot of health problems, heart injury being one important one. 3. CPAP helps even if you still cannot get great sleep with it. It's much ha...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

I stumbled upon this thread while searching for another topic. My situation supports the subject statement. I've Congestive Heart Failure and have had Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation for at least a couple of years and am convinced that such damage has been caused by my, unsuspected until recently, O...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

If an apnea event occurs due to high respiratory control system gain plus CPAP pressure the body responds to too little carbon dioxide in the blood by stopping breathing for a time which allows the carbon dioxide levels to move more toward normal (above the apneic threshold). A common condition ass...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

Hi HoseCrusher, Lannie, Sleep apnea causes heart problems. Not xPAP therapy. When you stop breathing your body responds with a "fight or flight" response and your body then has to process the chemicals produced during this startle. While the body can handle a couple of these a day when you subject i...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

Hi Julie, There's another way to live with GERD, something a lot of forum members do - get the head end of your bed up on 4-6 inch (no more!) blocks - it keeps the acid from rising. I have been using an electric bed for the past six years because of the GERD. Because I also have acid damage to my es...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

Hi Chunkyfrog, Lannie, have you inquired about an ablation procedure? Ablation is out for people with high risk of bleed according to the medical journals. There is only one way that is available that would be safer, even though it too has risks. That would be insertion of a device into the left atr...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

GERD often goes with OSA and often seems to precede it if anything. Some people have said their's got better on Cpap, so while it may cause aerophagia (the bloated burps etc.), it's unlikely to have been caused by it. Hi Julie, I never had a problem with GERD or not being able to eat greens and man...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

Thank you for your response, OldSarge. My primary Dr explained that it was far from a reason for over concern. ... The thing you must do is make sure you keep your physician recommendations and follow them. OldSarge, I don’t know if you live alone or with a spouse or other family, but when you live ...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrillation are connected

Todzo, thank you for your response. "But the pressure of CPAP drives the respiratory control loop gain higher and so may cause hypocapnic central apneas and long term facilitated hyperventilation. I have always thought that the resulting closed off circulatory system with the heart trying like mad t...
