Problem exporting CSV data from ResScan 4.3?
Occasionally, I export my sleep data from ResScan (file>export) as a CSV file into a spreadsheet to compare with other variables. Done so without a problem with previous versions of ResScan. However, with ResScan 4.3.0.7081 there seems to be a glitch in the date format which causes an incorrect export. It looks like, somewhere, ResScan confuses day with month.
When exporting from this current version, if I request data starting at 2/10/2014 (MM/DD/YR), for example, I will get data labeled 10/2/2014, 11/2/2014, 12/2/2014 and no more. Which, in reality, is data for February 10th , 11th, and 12th.
If I ask for data from 2/13/2014, it will not produce any because I think it does not recognize 13 as a valid month. A start date of 13/2/2014 cannot be requested as the first number can not be greater than 12.
It looks to me as if there is a mix up in MM/DD/YR format of the US and the DD/MM/YR format of other countries.
Has anybody else encountered this or want to check it? How about a solution?
Thanks,
Jay

When you enter the "from" date for export, is it MM/DD/YR as mine is, or DD/MM/YR as I think might be typically used in Australia?

Re: Problem exporting CSV data from ResScan 4.3
ResScan initially displayed the export function page with some dates already entered in those fields. So I just put in your problem date ranges in whatever format had been prompted, and it worked - I have no specific recollection of what the prompted date format was.

Make sure, if you haven't already, that the date format for the column the date data goes into corresponds to the format of the data going into it. Have you by chance for your spreadsheet program, or for this particular file, changed your preferences to the international date format?Jay Aitchsee wrote:Occasionally, I export my sleep data from ResScan (file>export) as a CSV file into a spreadsheet to compare with other variables. Check the preferences in Resscan. Maybe they're set for international format and not US format.

Thanks for that, idamtnboy.idamtnboy wrote:Make sure, if you haven't already, that the date format for the column the date data goes into corresponds to the format of the data going into it. I have opened the exported file with notepad just to rule out any problems with entry into a spreadsheet. Same result.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled a new download and checked preference on reinstall to be US English. Same result.
I could find no other applicable preference settings in ResScan, the closest is time scale, AM/PM vs. 24 hr, which has no effect.
To restate what I tried to say above:
The maximum number of days in any report is 12.
If I ask for report starting at the first of any month, I will get the header and the first 12 days of the month and the format will be day/month/yr, not month/day/yr as entered into the export request dialogue box.
If I ask for a report starting at other than the 1st, I get the header and the start date requested through the 12th, e.g. start date 4/11/14 yields header and data for 4/11/14 and 4/12/14 only. (labeled as 11/4/14 and 12/4/14)
If I ask for a report with a start date greater than the 12th of any month, I get the header only, e.g., start date 4/13/2014 yields header only.
The end date in all cases is set late enough as to not be a factor.
idamtnboy, are you using 4.3.0.7081 and, if so, can you export without a problem?
Bill in Australia doesn't seem to have a problem. How about anybody else in the US?

Re: Problem exporting CSV data from ResScan 4.3
No, I'm not. In fact I have opened Resscan less than a half dozen times in the last year! I was just thinking that maybe Resscan changed its date data handling routine and so maybe you were inadvertently mixing up the expected US and International date formats in your input and output and that was what causing your problem.Jay Aitchsee wrote:idamtnboy, are you using 4.3.0.7081 and, if so, can you export without a problem?

Re: Problem exporting CSV data from ResScan 4.3
Yes, I'm pretty sure the error is in ResScan's date handling routine in this release. The input format defaults to month/day/year and a number larger than 12 can't be entered in the first position. I did check to ensure I had entered correctly. Thanks.idamtnboy wrote:I was just thinking that maybe Resscan changed its date data handling routine and so maybe you were inadvertently mixing up the expected US and International date formats in your input and output and that was what causing your problem
I just wanted to see if anyone else had the problem to verify it. I guess I could go back to a previous version.

Upgraded to ResScan 4.5 and no longer have this problem.
