Another silly SD card question

Post by Country4ever » Sat Apr 19, 2014 9:09 am

I just re-read my old post about using the SD card, and I understand that, for the most part. But.....here's my question now.......

My data for last night didn't download to sleepyhead for some reason, so I put in a different SD card, thinking that maybe my original card was full. Well, it didn't download onto that card either.
So I tried to put the original card back into the S9 machine, and it keeps asking if I want to re-write it. When I press "No"........it says to take out the card and start the machine. The machine will not start unless I take out the card. So..........is it okay to re-write the card? I've downloaded the Sleepyhead info daily, so I don't care if the card is cleared. (Also.....just to make sure I understand..........the info for the doc's visit will still be on the card I take to him, right?)
How would I know if my original card is full?

Thanks for your patience (again)!

Country:

You have a ResMed machine so your card can never be full (well I suppose you could get a card whose capacity is so tiny it could be filled up but those haven't been made in years and years.) ResMed has a very peculiar file structure that is compatible with a normal personal computer file structure. But ... they write the data in specific locations, over and over. I think that at the end of 30 days, the data starts to get completely re-written.

When the S9 asks to re-write the card, what it is trying to tell you is that something in this weird file structure got changed and they want to re-write all the detailed information back onto the card. The wave (breathing data) will not be re-written since it is only written to the card when 1) the machine is in use and 2) the card is in the machine. No card, no data.

We've had the discussion of what happens to ResMed SD cards when they take up temporary residence in other computers and then return home. On Mac's and on some late operating system Windows machines, an extra file is written to the card just by being accessed by the computer. This extra file disturbs the ResMed file structure so the ResMed says, re-write and put it all together again in perfect order.

What to do?

On the edge of the SD card on the end of the card with the contacts but on the opposite side from the nipped off corner, is a slide switch. It is normally in the position nearest to the edge connectors. In that position, it allows any device to read from and write to the card. That's where it must be while in the CPAP machine.

If you slide that little switch away from the edge connectors, that only allows a device to read from the card but not to write. For safety purposes, each time you remove the card from the CPAP so that you can read the data, just move the little switch to the LOCK position, read the card, and then move it back to the UNLOCK position before replacing it back into the CPAP device. All will be well, your ResMed CPAP will love you, your computer won't care, and life will be good.
