Snoring

Post by mommaw » Wed Feb 16, 2005 8:51 am

Hello fellow hosers,

This morning I woke myself up snoring! Didn't think this was possible with CPAP. I am using a bi-level with nasal pillows and had a chin strap on to keep my mouth shut (husband said should wear all time) and still woke up snoring! Have any of you done that? My pressure is 18/14 so PLEASE dont tell me I need MORE pressure. I hav eonly been on the hose for about 2 weeks but am slowly adjusting. Am now able to sleep the night with the thing ramed up my nose. Would appreciate any feed back. Love this forum and all you folks. Feel like family.

Hmmmmm. Is it possible you were still mouth-breathing? I suppose if you get congested enough, nasally speaking, and can't get sufficient air in there, you'll find a way to breathe through your mouth in spite of your various devices to the contrary.

If that's the case, it might be time to ask your doctor for one of those steroidal long-lasting nasal sprays or something like it. If not, it's probably time to discuss it with your doctor. I agree that 18 is pretty high pressure, but it's not the highest, I've heard of machines that go up to 25 and perhaps even 30 (although the run of the mill CPAP stops at 20). So while I hate to say it, maybe you DO need more pressure.

I'm really not that witty. I'm just really good at mass hypnosis across electronic media. When you come out of the post hypnotic suggestion, you'll realize I've just been quoting random bits out of the last 10 State of the Union Addresses.

Liam, America and Afghanistan are now allies against terror.

Snoring with chin strap

Post by derek » Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:14 am

Although Encore Pro showed a bunch of snores spread across every night, like you I didn't believe it was possible to snore with the mouth closed and a chin strap on. Last night, however, I actually woke up during a snoring session, and sure enough I was doing it with my mouth closed. It is possible!

As far as I can tell my Remstar Auto does not seem to respond to these snores - just records them.

derek

I, for one, happen to know that I snore with my mouth closed but not with the cpap on (nasal pillows).

I did my own, very unscientific, "Sleep Study"...I set up my camcorder on the tripod and recorded several nights so I could actually see if I did all the wierd stuff my wife says I do...LOL

She's such a liar!
But I love her anyway...for 35 years now!

Anyway, guess what she's right, when I don't use the cpap I snore very loudly...mouth open, not so loud...mouth closed but I still snore, and I jerk one leg around alot.

How do you film yourself? Keep the light on?

Post by meister » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:20 pm

I would like to try this myself, but my digital tape only lasts about
60 minutes. Do you get up and keep changing the tape?

This is a serious question.

Check with Liam I think he knows about taping in the bedroom...

Seriously tho, there is a way to do it, most cameras stay on when they are plugged in. You can use a regular VCR to do the recording (on the 8 hr setting) using the camera as the line in. (this is assuming you camera came with the appropriate cabling and connectors)

Mike answers this knowing nothing about taping in the bedroom... Honest.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I just asked my wife how to do it, since SHE is the expert on taping in the bedroom......
And I always do it with the light on!!!

Whitey, who likes a little light on the subject...
