Post by sthnreb » Sun Feb 13, 2005 12:58 pm

What is best for cleaning masks? Is anyone familiar with these items.

Also they have a brush to clean inside of tubing and was wondering if it worked or if anyone is familiar with it. Thanks.

I bought a small "nipple brush" from the baby section at Target. It works great on the nasal pillows. As for the tubing.... I am not sure what to use other than water with a mild liquid dish washing detergent. Anyone have any other solutions?

I've never understood those. I don't have enough hair on mine to be worth brushing.

I use Ivory soap to wash everything. I remember reading in the instructions you want a pure soap, no deodorants or anti-bacterial agents, just plain soap. Now, I wish I could get rid of those 56/100ths of a percent impurities, but still....

Liam . o O (Hmmmm. Slippery soap suds. HmMMMMMmmm!)

There is a citrus II for mask cleaning along with a citrus II disinfectant for nasal masks and hoses. Also one place makes a brush to clean inside the hose, up to 10 foot. The brush and stem is 5 foot long. I was just wondering how well they work and if anyone was familiar with them.

I have used a small amount of Dreft liquid for cleaning my mask and tubing. It works quite well. I do not use a brush for cleaning, but I take apart my mask and soak it every day. The tubing I clean once a week, unless I have a cold.

Hi, everyone!

Yes, there is an A.W.A.K.E. support group that meets at the Elk Grove Village Library. I know, because I'm the coordinator of the group!

When the hospital quit paying our postage a number of years ago, we quit doing newsletters and only send our email or postcard announcements for the meetings. The firm of sleep physicians who started the group still have the old document on their site. I'll have to talk to them about that.

We do meet the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm. Meetings usually go till 9 or so, depending on questions.

In 2005, our schedule at the library is to meet in January, March, April, May, June, July, August, September and October. Our November meeting would be Thanksgiving night, so we all just eat turkey and sleep well that night. In December the meeting would be very close to Christmas Day. We have had a purely social evening early in December in some years.

February 24 is the normal date for our next meeting, but the Elk Grove Village Library has pre-empted the room for two weeks, so we do not currently have a scheduled meeting in February.

However, earlier tonight goofy217 reached me by phone and we are discussing the possibility of meeting that night at another location which she may be able to arrange.

We'll post more information here early next week.

Meanwhile, if anyone wants information about A.W.A.K.E. groups, especially around Chicago, feel free to contact me here. There are about a dozen groups in the Chicago metro area.

As for a national listing of support groups, the American Sleep Apnea Association is the group that fosters the A.W.A.K.E. Network of support groups. We are working on a new page for our website at http://www.sleepapnea.org that will allow you to search for a group based on ZIP code. Until then, visit the website or email awake@sleepapnea.org and ask about a group in your area. Just be sure to say what city and state you're in! It's funny how many requests we get that say: "Do you have a group in my area?" and we have no clue as to where the person is located.

Dave

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey there Everyone!!

As you may have read, Dave from the A.W.A.K.E. group that meets in Elk Grove Village and I have actually spoken just last week. Yeah!!!

He and I are planning a Meeting to be held at my hotel on February 24th. So, if any of you are interested, please let me or Dave know so that we know if we should go ahead with this meeting or not.

Here's the information you may be interested in knowing:

Location: COMFORT SUITES HOTEL
1100 E. Higgins Road
Schaumburg, IL 60173

Hotel Phone: 847-330-0133

If there is enough people interested in this meeting, but are leary about the drive, just call the hotel and ask for the APNEA Rate. I have put a Special Rate in just for this meeting into the hotel computer system of $59.00 + tax for the night, which includes a Full Hot Breakfast Buffet the following morning and if you get to the hotel between 5pm-7pm, the rate also includes the Hotel Manager's Reception with Complimentary Appetizers and Beer & Wine along with non-alcoholic beverages.

I hope to get to meet many of you that night. I know I will be here, I am bartending that night!! Looking forward to meeting many "fellow hoseheads"!

That includes the usual three-and-a-half pots of coffee per sleepy hosehead in the morning?

Seriously, that's a great rate, a great complimentary spread, and a great gesture on your part!

Yes, this rate is a Terrific Rate actually. The hotel is an ALL-SUITE Hotel. So every room is a Suite - You can say it's a SUITE DEAL!

But anyways, I just wanted to be able to help out my fellow hoseheads! I know it's hard to do long drives sometimes and if there could be a Light at the end of the Tunnel, why not offer it to my people who can help me too!

I really hope we can get a good attendance to this meeting.... So, please let me know if you can come out.

Thanks!

Goofy,
That is so nice of you to arrange a deal like that. I am just sorry that I can't participate. It falls on a day for me that I have to work plus the fact of the long commute--309.4 miles with approximate travel time: 6 hours 52 mins. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for your kindness and I hope there are several out there that can take advantage of the offer. Let us know how it turns out--

Felineperson,

You are so very welcome! If you need to get information about a group closer to you, please let me know.

Actually.... Dave has a list of groups all over Illinois. If you PM him and let him know what area you are in, he can probably tell you where to find a group closer to you.

I hope there's a good attendance for this group. It just would be so nice to be able to share experiences, etc.... in person with others. This is nice, but the personal touch is just a tad bit nicer... you know what I mean?

By the way! If you are interested in seeing what the hotel looks like, just click onto the website: http://www.comfortschaumburg.com

The hotel is the newest hotel in Schaumburg and the rate is a Single or Double Occupancy Rate.... family members can come along, kids under 16 get to stay FREE! There is an indoor pool and whirlpool too!

Again, I hope to meet many of you at the meeting!!!

Does anyone want to attend this meeting? I am planning on setting up the room for 40 people, and am hoping to get that many to attend. So far, it looks like it's me and Muckmeister along with Dave and some people from the normal Elk Grove Village group.

It would be sooooo nice to have more people in attendance..... Anyone?

I've just gotten word that the local manufacturer's rep from Respironics will be there to talk about his company and his product line.

We'll also have time for questions and answers on general apnea topics.

I look forward to meeting anyone from the Illinois area who wishes to come.

Dave,

That's great news! I know there are at least a dozen registered forum members who live in an around the Chicago area. This would be great opportunity to meet a few people on the forum and see what attending a local support group is all about.

I driving down from WI to see what it's all about. If at all possible this would be a great time to give it a try.

Hpoe to see you all there.
