Restarting CPAP

Post by DJL » Tue Jun 18, 2013 11:35 pm

Hi,
I was using a CPAP for about 5 years and then stopped (for 3 years) after I had some major sinus surgery and had most of my turbinates removed. But recently my headaches and tiredness came back.
So I had an overnight sleep study and my AHI was 7.6 per hour, before my surgery my AHI was 39 per hour.
The question is it worth going back onto CPAP with the problems that it can cause with my AHI being low. I have tried a dental device about six years ago and it did not work.

Thanks Dave

Couple considerations... This recent test - did they capture you in REM while supine? If not, they may not have been able to capture your worst case scenario. And, did the study show your sleep apnea to be positional by any chance? Just saying, your relatively low AHI may or may not be reflective of your usual sleep. But even if the test result numbers are pretty close to your normal nights, if side sleeping won't help, I'd say since you are symptomatic treatment is indicated.
