Cracks on Respironics ComfortGel Mask

Post by Boxtop51 » Sun Jan 16, 2005 4:25 pm

I purchased a Respironics ComfortGel mask in Sep 04 and have been using it since. This past week I noticed three cracks in the hard plastic frame of the mask that holds the gel mask and face piece. The mask is triangular and there is one crack on each of the three sides.
I don't remember knocking, dropping or otherwise abusing the mask. I'm wondering if there is perhaps a manufacturing fault with this type of mask?
If any of you have had similar experiences with the Respironics ComfortGel mask I would be interested in hearing about it. What break problems did you have? Did you report them to your supplier or directly to the manufacturer? What kind of response did you get from either or both?
I appreciate any info you might provide.

I have the same problem with the same Respironics ComfortGel mask. After about 6 months it has two cracks.

Respironics makes good machines (as do Puritan Bennett and ResMed.) But I've never met a Respironics mask I liked. Too uncomfortable and leaky although they may work fine for others. (Probably I didn't put up with them long enough to get to a cracked plastic stage!)

It's ResMed masks all the way for me, especially their Activa and their Ultra Mirage FF. Only exception is my #1 favorite, Puritan Bennett's Breeze/nasal pillows.

I've had my ComfortGel mask since July and no problems yet. I got my first one in June and the plastic part that you can adjust at the top of the mask broke, but they replaced the mask for free. So far no problems with this on. And I like the mask better than the Resmed Activa Shallow. That one hurts the bridge of my nose. I got it as a backup because everyone raved about the mask, but it hurts my nose too much. I know masks don't last forever, so I'll have to get a new one eventually, but I'll get another ComfortGel as my primary mask as it works great for me, sleeping on my side and everything!

I am on my 2nd Resperonics gel mask (in 3 years - pretty good!). Last night it broke!

I blame the stupid Rainout - I was awakened during the night (as usual) breathing in water, when I pulled the mask away from my face to wipe out the water. Well, I don't know what I did, but the plastice ring that connects the swivel part of the mask to the hose broke off and now I can't keep the hose attached to the mask!

It doesn't look fixable and since it's a new year, I'm sure I'm going to have to pay full price for a new one since my deductable has not been met.

It just never ends...

The SAME thing just happened to me! I've had my mask for 15 months...I don't think there's a way to fix it....but at least it lasted 15 months.
