Best autoset available?
Best autoset available?
I've been out of touch with this board for a long time, and I need some advice. I've been using Resmed for almost 20 years. Never had a problem with any of my machines, ever. I am brand loyal to a fault, and I am ready to upgrade my machine, again.
I will most likely buy a ResMed 9i Autoset w/humidifier in the near future. My question is: Does anyone think there is a better choice available anywhere for this high-end class of machine? Let's for the moment forgo the cost of software, cables, supplies, ResMed's arrogance, etc.

Depending on if you want or need biflex operation, the S9 autoset is a great machine. I now own the VPAP S Biflex; and just moved up to the VPAP Adapt.. trying to slay the Centrals and arousals.akeegan wrote:I've been out of touch with this board for a long time, and I need some advice. Take a look at secondwindcpap; they get some deals in in all brands; unless you're going through insurance. they're a good place to start.
After 20 years, there's been lots of changes and quite a few choices.

Re: Best autoset available?
I have the S9 Autoset and am very happy with it. I've seen some topics here comparing Resmed and Respironics from people who have used both and there didn't seem to be any overwhelming reason to choose one over the other.

The 2 main players in the APAP market are ResMed and Respironics. You can't go wrong with either.
Cables are no longer a factor with either since plain ordinary SD cards are used now.
I happen to have both brands in the bilevel model and this was after nearly 3 years with Respironics brand.
Very minor pros and cons with each.
Since you are known brand loyal and have been using the ResMed algorithm for a long time..get the S9 AutoSet. They did change the algorithm just a little but I don't think you will mind the change.
Respironics exhale relief is a little different than the EPR of ResMed. One is not necessarily better than the other. They are just different in how they reach the same goal of exhale relief.
While I think that the PR S1 APAP is probably just as "good" (meaning effective good) I don't think that one is "better" than the other.
Sort of a toss up and if you are used to one thing there is no urgent need to try a different brand. I don't know of any APAP that is better...the Respironics APAP is probably equal to the S9 though.

Re: Best autoset available?
There are two top-end auto machines, and one of them is by Resmed. You said you're brand loyal to a fault, so there's your logical decision.
However, I'm just as pleased with my Intellipap that I have at another house. With the lights out, I can't tell the difference between the two. If the S9 Autoset suddenly died, I'd replace it with another Intellipap without a moment's hesitation. Fine data capability is fine for when you're starting out. But after the dust has settled, the data I get from the Intellipap tells me all I need to know. At half the cost.

One other difference I am curious to hear from people is the hose management.
Resmed has the hose connector on the back and it does not swivel where Respironics has it on top and it does swivel. My S9 is on the nightstand next to me and the hose basically does a tight 90 against the wall.
I am eligible for a new machine this year and I would expect the S10 at some point (Its been 3 years now) and I hope they fix this nuisance factor.

The hose elbow should take care of any position issues. Except if you are using the climate line. Then you are SOL or need to turn your machine.

And yes I am using the climateline which is why I am curious about the future of Resmed. They sure seem ripe for the S10.cosmo wrote:no_more_headaches wrote:One other difference I am curious to hear from people is the hose management.

Do you have a photo of the space with your current set up now? I can mock up all 3 machines in a similar fashion if you want.no_more_headaches wrote:

Is there really a "9i" or is that just a typo.akeegan wrote:I've been out of touch with this board for a long time, and I need some advice. I've been using Resmed for almost 20 years. I've got both S9 AutoSet and PRS1-550 and I'd say it's a tossup. Either one has minor good and bad points.
