Re: APAP vs. CPAP
sws said there is a white paper posted that reports compliance is equal between APAP and CPAP. That must be recent as the studies I read a few years ago reported CPAP compliance at 50% and APAP compliance at 70%. When my doc hesitated to script me an APAP I asked him why he would script anyone a sol...

Re: APAP vs. CPAP
Some folks have a faulty lower esophageal sphincter which sits on top of you stomach and prevents contents from going up EG GERD, and air entering under CPAP. Valves don't fail in an all or nothing fashion but will begin leaking at a threshold pressure and leak faster at higher pressure. I've tested...

Re: REVIEW -Philips Respironics "Amara" Full Face Mask
It hasn't been mentioned yet, so let me ask if you are sure you don't need a larger size mask. I use the Forma and before that had the Ultra something for a few years. The ultra was a Medium so that's what the DME issued in the Forma. It kinda worked but after a week or so began to irritate my bridg...

Re: Took to CPAP like a fish takes to water
I very long time ago there was quite a drawn out discussions about ingesting air into the stomach. Quite a few simply blew it off because their experience must apply to all. For those of us who suffered the pain of bloated and kinked intestines is was and always will remain a serious subject. I did ...

Re: Took to CPAP like a fish takes to water
Make that me three. After trying the pillows, the nasal and gong to the full I've been a happy camper. The only thing I can think of that made it work was wearing the mask in the USAF, but even that didn't bother me if I recall it right. My initial overnight at the lab found my O2 hovered in the low...

Sleep Meds - Interesting Experience
I'm not new to Sleep issues as I've chronic insomnia for over 60 years - yes since childhood. It must run in the family as my maternal cousin has the same issue. My sleep doc had me try a few sleep meds which gave me a med hangover that didn't clear until mid day. Finally we got to Sonata as they ha...

Re: Head cover
Right, I have one and just ordered 2 more. The first one was a dark blue however and the color bled out like some horror movie. Now that I've washed it a few times it is okay. I ordered grey this time.

Head cover
I'm have my setup working well and I'm not around here much. This time it's to ask about a head cover/scarf/etc. At one time somebody was making a scarf cap for nighttime wear. Anybody care to point the way?

Re: Modified UPS for Electrical Backup?
My first night I slept on battery only for 9hrs. It still showed lots of battery left so I used it last night and got 4hrs before it quit. Now I'm confident it can easily make it through 1 night but not 2 so I'm going to continue to leave it plugged in and run the APAP off it's battery. Since I had ...

Re: Modified UPS for Electrical Backup?
Mine is a Harbor Freight cheap model. It said you cannot overcharge the battery and recommended to keep it plugged in. My cable came today so tonight I'll unplug it from the wall and see how long it lasts. When Our power goes it usually is out 3-4 hours and sometimes longer so a good test is appropr...

Re: CPAPTalk.com Bugs? Tell Our Developers Here.
Not a bug, but I would like an icon link to CPAP.com on the front header. I see something on the forum I'm interested in and want the quick link visible as I'd forget where it is if I had to look for it. No, my memory hasn't improved a bit since starting treatment a few years ago - can't remember wh...

Re: Mask face farts
I use only full face masks and used the Quatro Pro for a long time, but it cut into the area between my chin and bottom lip. Then I tried the F&P Forma and haven't looked back. It is soft all over and although I have to have it tight it is not painful. Having the correct size is critical as to small...

Re: 6 hours of sleep enough?
In my many working years I seldom got a decent night's sleep, going in early coming home late, off work making up time with family. All that and untreated sleep apnea made me old too soon. My latest sleep study (after 3 years of treatment) shows I have a 75% sleep efficiency. I tell my wife that mea...

Re: Modified UPS for Electrical Backup?
So, Gumby, Am I right that all I need is to plug my jump start package (pic below) into the wall and plug my APAP into it via the cigarette plug on the side? And that's IT? http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/135x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_11265.jp...
