Re: Nose surgery - CPAP usage and affect on apneas?
In one of Dr. Park's (NYC ENT) phone call talks, he stated that nasal surgery should be done if the goal is to improve your daytime breathing. It sounds like this is your goal. However, he warned that if your OSA is severe, you will still need CPAP, as there is likely to be multiple areas of air con...

Re: What is with these doctors? Is breathng important or not?
My experience was completely different than this, thanks to a doctor (& the doctor's spouse) who both had OSA. My husband had the machine within two weeks of his initial study and I had mine the next day as my OSA was so severe with CPAP started during the evaluation study. We're insured by a HMO, s...

Re: success! mouth sealing tape etc
For 11 nights, I used two-inch paper tape with a smear of lanolin on my lips. Then, reviewing my data,I had a 37 second clear airway apnea, with NO tidal volume---looked like an obstructive apnea without the ability to mouth breathe. I vaguely recall a struggle, but I sleep so deeply without ever usi...

Re: Swallowing so much air and waking up
If I'm feeling anxiety about the mask or a pressure change, I tend to gulp air. My taping procedure is to cut a 3-4 inch strip of 2 inch paper tape and fold over the top right corner, lay it by my machine and seal my mouth just before I go to sleep. Others may have helpful taping tips such as using ...

Re: Swallowing so much air and waking up
Air swallowing is upsetting and can painfully distend your stomach until you burb the air out. Because of my air gulping & mouth opening/snoring,I'm on my tenth night of using two inch paper tape over my mouth with a folded over corner tab. Also, I've noted the moist morning mouth, better AHI (less ...

Ditto, I've had a zero a few times.
Especially thank the lansinoh (better than the jar lanolin) and mouth taping suggestions from this board.

Re: memory and cognitive relationship with apnea
Your story sounds so familiar to mine: disbelief to order testing (BMI=19), then desats to the 60s with the tech rushing in after two hours to initiate CPAP. Since it was such an "emergency" I insisted to be set up with a unit the next day. Now I've assured myself with home oximeter readings above 9...

Re: Bruxism (Teeth Grinding/Clenching)
Seven years ago, I chipped my front teeth a few times until my dentist fitted me for a custom night guard. But this past year, despite wearing the night guard, I broke off a crown and a filling. The dentist was puzzled since there was no decay and questioned if I was really wearing that night guard....

Re: What symptoms do you have?
I was diagnosed incidentally during my husband's sleep apnea apt, when he complained about my snoring and nocturia. Turns out, I have severe sleep apnea (48.6 AHI/desats to the 60s). After being treated for three months now, I can count on SO many symptoms that have completely resolved: cold toes de...

Re: Newbie Update
Only had used CPAP for the past three months and my major complaint is dealing with nasal sores. So I looked into Calendula ointment. Some calendula products have white petrolatum which would definitely break down the silicone. Others have lanolin (which is think is OK) and beeswax (not sure). I gue...

Re: The Evolution of Malocclusion and Sleep Apnea
I am interested in Dr. Park's opinion if having had a bilateral sinus lift and dental implants (2009) could have aggravated an underlying mild OSA to become severe (2011). Unable to find any evidence of a connection.

Re: Lansinoh and Secaris
Initially I tried Ayr's nasal saline gel without any benefit and I believe Secaris is similar. I ordered Now's brand of pure Lanolin in a jar and the irritation has lessened. Next I intend to try alternating the XS with the Small pillow as the size seems to hit against the nostril in a different spo...

Re: low SaO2 level... how bad is it?
My low SaO2 prompted the tech to call the doctor for emergency CPAP, as I just kept drifting down, 80, 70 then a low 60s in just under two hours of sleep. The calculated AHI was 48.6. BUT the good news is that on my home oximeter the SaO2 remains 95 the entire night and my three month average AHI of...
