Re: Obamacare Is Not About Healthcare
The ACA is about controlling the cost of healthcare.....ie. no care. I have ALREADY seen care denied to ppl needing a sleep study. The reason is mainly from a person in another state calling the shots; not the ordering physician. The health reasons the would dictate the need for a sleep study, I wil...

Re: Still a newbie with some questions ...
Waking to AM headaches, could be our oxygen is still getting to low through the night. You can verify this either with a store-bought unit to test your overnight Sats. or ask your dr. for an overnight oxymitry test. As to the dry mouth, I remember a mouth wash that will also moisturized the lining. ...

Re: Weight loss and pressure
Generally, a weight change of 20 (either way) will be cause for a pressure change of 1 cwp. If you feel your stomach being bloated with air; feel unrested in morning, your printout shows central sleep apnea ( if it does) or your husband tells you the you totally stop breathing with no effort either ...

Re: Why is it necessary to have prescription to buy cpap?
Archangel is right....all kidding and sarcasm and anger at insurance companies set aside. I set the pressuress for pts. almost every nite, and see the problems associated with pressure changes. I have to monitor body systems and the changes that happen as the pressure changes. I see the adverse reac...

Re: cpap pressure
CPAP is a medication and needs a script for use. Like other medication, fooling around with is is not healthy. It has been know to throw heart rhythms off at too high pressure. Besides... a pressure of 4 is not much.

Nanwilson is making a good goal for you. This is a form of self-medication.. I see the small changes happening that you are not aware of. ...desats, arousals, brainwaves, UARS, snoring, etc. ultimately, you should confirm your pressure you like with 'another!!' Sleep study.

Re: POLL: OTC CPAP?
Self diagnosis and/or self medicating is never a good idea. A resistered sleep tech or RT can see how a cpap machine is affecting a person's sleep that a program cannot perceive.

Re: Just a question on tiredness
Really, sounds like most ppl needing a nap in the afternoon.
You may also be in your current habit of sleeping or nappng in the afternoon.
Along with your cpap, look into your diet for energy; any meds you take could be overprescribed as OSA therapy sometimes decreases this need andsleep hygiene.

Also welcome from a sleep tech....i suggest that you also get a generator for your emergency usage...once you get used to the cpap a power outage will be ...well...devastating to your sleep.
Sleep well, get well and become more energetic with you new found normal sleep

Re: Tonsil Cancer + Apnea = Desperate, please help!
Two things...1. I assume that you will have a tonsilectomy....ask your doctor for a re-titration study to adjust the pressure again. 2. There are studies that have linked sleep apnea, desats, and some cancers. As I remember, the immune system is compromised which leads to the body becming compromise...

Have you been changing out or cleaning the filter on your machine? I get a few inner ear infections....have you considered buying a quality Hepa room air filtering machine? I also use hydrogen peroxide to dry my ear canal out.

All four patients are snoring at the same rhythm and the same time,
First one, then two and one time three wanted to get up for the bathroom at the same time.
They think that the sleep tech is for room service.
The kids are screaming bloody murderduring hook up.

Re: Help with Oximetry results please...
The correlation I look for is both an O2 desat along with an arousal from sleep. This can cause fragmented sleep, which leads to sleep deprivation. The danger of sleep fragmentation can also be found in sleep stages being altered from normal cycles. Also, current scoring standards are that an O.2 de...
