Re: Questions/Rant About Periodic Breathing and Kaiser

I see a Sleep Medicine Certified doctor on my appointments. The first was a neurologist who pushed my pressure up so high that my AHI went up then he would up the pressure again and so on. The next doc was a pulmonologist and listened to my input about my treatment and we tried alternatives until we...

Re: AHI 13.6, AI 1.8 Oxygen sat level 96%

For whatever reason- mine was medicines I take- you may need an ASV machine used for treating complex, mixed and central apneas. I could not get my AHI down under 18.6 the six months before ASV and 26.5 the six months before that. Like you I did not desaturate so my doctor gave me the choice to cont...

Re: ASV Study

PapHater, how are things going now? In my year on ASV I have noticed big changes for the better in my mood and daytime sleepiness. When I started ASV I thought I would give it six months to a year to get optimum therapy. One year later the machine and I are best friends. The worst night was the tria...

Re: OSA forgetfulness

I can totally relate to that. I get lost going to appointments when I haven't been to a place in two months. I can't remember what else I've forgotten!
I take Aricept, too.

Re: Feeling worse after a week on cpap

Good luck. It took me over a year to find the forum and the great suppoort here. I went through the same thing, but later into my therapy. The doc told me it was normal. I would like to have your numbers, but take meds that wreak havoc with my sleep artchitecture. Hang in there.

Re: Help me decide on a machine?

Good luck. You got good advice from faithful forum members. I hope you can get a good sleep doc when you stop traveling. It's not always necessary to have one on your support crew, but comes in handy if you need a new script or run into problems we can't help you with. An auto machine would be nice ...

Re: LEAKAGE AND AHI

It's good you're paying attention to your leak percentage. I used to not know about leaks and the doctor would tell me my leakage was too high. How do you feel? What kind of mask are you using? It may be you nees a different mask. I have good luck with the gel cushions and I believe it's Respironcs ...

Re: im going ok...me thinks?

As LSAT said how do you feel? I'm a long sleeper, too. We all have different needs regarding how long we sleep. For the first four years of therapy I slept ten to 12 hours a night and took a nap in the afternoon, plus took Provigil or Nuvigil. Then I got on the right machine and sleep nine hours. I'...

Re: Unusual Readings?

I don't want to play "my apnea was longer than your apnea", but an episode of 66 minutes is entirely possible. I once had an epicode one minute 44 seconds on a sleep test. I wonder when they would have woken me up!

Re: Coming back to try cpap. Only slept 1 night

I've never had an S9, but my last machine was an S8 and I think it's a fine machine. If you think it's worth a try and that you will be more compliant because it's a more comfortable, newer machine by all means get an S9. I think the important consideration is will you use the new machine? New techn...

Re: Thundershirt

As I understand it, the concept was introduced by an autistic woman as a way to calm cattle going to slaughter. She also pioneered the concept of using gently curving chutes as that was not as upsetting to the cattle as turning sharp corners. She deviced a device to use on people to give them a nice...

Re: NEWBIE NEEDS HELP

Joe, the long way to be sure you get the reports from the doctor is to fill out a Release of Information form listing the dates and what information you want. Sometimes you can call the office and a helpful person will mail them to you, but the ROI is usually surefire. The best idea is to get the so...

Re: A too tight Quattro FFM will move your low jaw backwards!

Yeah, DreamStalker, I wish I had seen your posts. In six months an ill fitting strap when I'm breathing fine through my nose. My mandible has moved back 1/4 inch in six months, from dental appointment to dental appointment. Luckily this will not damage my badly crowded teeth and I will get a retaine...

Re: braces and invisalign

Janknitz, I saw the dentist yesterday and he recommended an Invisilign retainer to be sure my teetyh didn't shift anymore. He looked at my quattro ffm and thought it was too light to cause any more shifting of my bottom teeth. The alternative is to go full out with braces and pulling one tooth to ma...
