My first Cpapiversary!

Post by Bluecat » Sun Feb 19, 2012 7:35 am

That's it, I've been on the hose for a year!
Used everynight with a min usage of 4h54 and an average of 8h02.
Average AHI: 0.8
90% pressure: 12.1
Average pressure 10.7
(and 75 lbs weight loss )

This is really a great forum!

Bluecat,

That is awesome! That is a real accomplishment considering the extremely large number of people who give CPAP therapy a try, but unfortunately for them (and their loved ones), the machine ends up in the closet getting dusty and their un-checked OSA continues to get worse and worse. I am only a quarter of the way to the goal you reached, but each time I hear of someone else making it to that year mark it gives me the courage and resolve to work hard at achieving the same thing.

I wish you many more years of successful treatment and restful nights!

John

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Thank you all very much.
Without this forum, I wouldn't have been able to understand OSA so much.
My sleep doctor only prescribes PRS1 Auto or S9 Autoset (depending on what the DME stocks) so in that sense I was lucky, but having patients having access to the software is unheard of in France... Apparently people here are really supposed to juste use their xPAP and not try and understand things...
The RT from the DME (well, the french equivalent!) came the other day, didn't even notice I had changed the range from 6-18 to 10-18, just noted that I was using my APAP regularly and that overall average AHI was very good. He didn't show me the numbers, just told me the results were good, and left... I suppose many patients just don't care (it is apparently the way they want things here... you can't even buy supplies on your own)
My sleep doctor, on the other hand, is VERY good, one of the top french doctors in this field (sleep problems is a medical specialty, just like cardiology etc... a "normal" doctor can't prescribe and follow up on CPAP therapy). I know I can discuss details of my treatment with him (he was very pleased with all my research and understanding last time we met, and he approved my choice of changing my range on my own). The problem is that, between the fact that only a few doctors are allowed to diagnose and treat OSA and the fact that he is one of the best, it is very difficult to get an appointment! (I have just made an appointment with him... nothing available until the end of June!!)

CONGRATS! How wonderful!
You will be my inspiration.
I've lost 16 lbs and only have about 12 more to go.
