Hi,

I'm new at this and was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem that I have. I was never measured for a sleep mask, or nasal pillows. They just gave me a "small." I have one heck of a time trying to align the mask and cap. When I lie on my side, the opposite side of the mask is half-way across my face.

I also tried the Adams Circuit nasal pillows (which I liked). However, after struggling with it, I discovered that 3 components were missing. I called up my supplier about it and they're finally mailing me one swivel attachment. I find that most unsatisfactoy. I'm bringing everything to my sleep specialist and am certain he will help me get that problem resolved.

I also had problems with nasal irritations and was advised to just use a little Vaseline petroleum jelly with a Q-Tip. That really helped. I use it before and after.

I'm trying to find a sleep mask, or nasal inserts which are really small, real easy to assemble and comfortable....or is that an impossible dream. Anyone out there have any suggestions

Thanks for any advice,
catlady

Hey Klady,

Welcome to the forum. I use the ComfortGel and have had very little trouble with it; however, I sleep on my back and rarely move. A lot of people on the site suggest the Mirage Activa and the Breeze as their preferred mask. I was fortunate enough to have the technician at the sleep center fit me for my mask and explain how the machine worked before I brought it home. You paid a lot of money (or your insurance company did) for the sleep study and equipment, the least you are owed is an explanation of how everything works and some assistance with your mask.

In hindsight, I wish I new more about the equipment options before taking everything home. However, I can't complain as I had my sleep study and titration done in one week and picked up the equipment the following week. Apparently, my results spooked a few people and they put the rush on things.

Good luck in finding something that works for you.

Thanks very much for your encouraging words and advice. My sleep specialist appeared quite shocked when he saw the masks and headgear I was using and also recommended the Mirage. He also is referring me to another respiratory therapist associated with a completely different company.

I was really beginning to feel very discouraged about this whole business. I've been struggling with a supposedly reputable hospital since December. Apparently there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. After doing research on the internet, I'm going to insist on being fitted properly. That can make all the difference in the world.

Thanks again. I really appreciate your response.

i am totaly shocked by these posts i cannot belive that anybody can come away from a osa consultation & tests, and be sent packing without being tried with an asortment of masks, give instuctions & shown how to use the darn thing. that is daylight robbery take your money & send to the place, if your lucky enough, that pays his wages. when there, you pay BIG money, to them for the equipement, & they dont want to know ok, if again your fortunate enough to be able to get, or afford insurance, then they pay, but no not realy, you have to pay them monthly for the pleasure, in the form of hyped up premiums. i dont want to get back onto the old suject again, but the more i read these post, well im speachless. dont you all feel totally ripped off i know i would trust, how can you trust these dr's, when you see them, you know full well that whatever treatment you get, its going to be the one that best lines his pocket when i see my consultant, i know hes going to do the best for me. you cant possibly have that peace of mind, can you
im sorry for touching on old debates, but the more i read, the more it saddens me greatly. i feel so prevaliged, to live where i do, & i prey that we never, go down this route jean

Klady, So sorry for your unfortunate experience. Like has been said many times Buyer Beware. You must be assretive and involved in your treatment or its a crap shoot. I'l bet you paid a fortune for this service also. Those evil DMEs. Now that you know of cpap.com you will have nothing but good news in the future.

Better luck next time
