insomnia

Post by gailzee » Mon Jan 24, 2005 10:08 pm

Is this a common problem for people with sleep apnea? Daytime we could sleep the day away, nighttime, hit the pillow and stare at the clock, ceiling.
It's quite disturbing. Any tips? Does the apnea finally affect someone so badly that their entire body is out of sync?
My machine is on order...................anxious for it to come now.
Thanks.........

Gailzee,

I am not sure if it is a common thing or not. I can fall asleep anywhere at anytime; I once fell asleep standing against the side of a pool, leaning against a raft. My skin is still wrinkled from that incident; believe me 5 hours in a pool overnight and you have nothing to be proud of. While it is easy for me to fall asleep, I can also stay up for 48 hrs. I just got my machine today, so I am hopeful for some good results overtime. I think I can stay awake for so long because my body is used to being deprived of rest.

I get bouts of insomnia when I have a lot on my mind, as my brain never wants to shut off. Except of course when I finally fall asleep and it stops telling my body to breath (central apnea is my biggest problem). Although I am fortunate enough to have obstructive apnea as well.

I don't think I've answered your question, but at least you know that others have similar experiences.

Best of luck with your machine.

The CPAP helps you get a better nights sleep without the apnea constantly waking you up. Make sure that your television is turned off because it is easy to get involved in a show then not want to go back to sleep. Also have your hormone levels checked. I don't no your age but midlife can cause you to get insomnia. I have a thyroid condition along with my apnea having the slow thyroid corrected also gave me more daytime energy. Jolene

Thank you and good luck with your machine, do keep me posted. Mine has ''arrived'' at the DME's, now comes the play telphone tag with the cutie to come here and set me up. Should be a hoot.
