mike, you said, "I am holding out some hope that the Hans Rudolph biometric mask will give me an interface that fits me. Saving up for it now."
Oh, I think it will fit people when they put it on at bedtime sitting up just like they were when their faces were digitally mapped.
Hope the buyers are not disappointed when they lie down, turn from side to side, and find their face muscles and tissues shifting hither and yon under that mask just like under any other mask. I do hope it works better than I think it will.
I believe a well designed cushion that's forgiving of movement (a la ResMed's Activa) is the key to preventing leaks; more important, imho, than the initial contour "fit" of a somewhat static mask cushion against a still face.
Lab rat reports will be interesting. Hope I'm pleasantly surprised enough to get my picture taken, too!!

RG,
In all my mask trials, hope (like leaks) springs eternal. I have run the course with "one type fits most" off the shelf mask. It this isn't just a gimmick to sucker us in, a custom mask may be worth the investment. Custom fitted shoes really are more comfortable so why not "Nose-opedic" nostril wear?

I guess the really painful part starts where the mask clashes with the bones and cartillage in your face, not the the soft tissue. The Activa's cutting edge is probable pushed there by the top of Mikes nose. But I agree with Rested Gal, the measuring should definitely be done lying down.
I've never had custom shoes made - but when they measure me for sneaker breadth, it's always done standing, and I know that Loewe (mountaineering shoe company) measures you standing in a sandbox.
Maybe the digiwhatchamacallit will be programed to take gravitational effects into account.

Imagine all the interesting substances that could be put in a humidifier...
My personal invention is a chilled humidifier complete with blender blades at the bottom and an ice maker introducing chopped ice into one side. Jose Cuervo and Rose's lime juice go in the other side. Before I go to bed I salt the rim of my mask seal!
Have an awesome weekend everyone!
