Compative Sounds (loudness) by Pressure Levels of 11 Masks
Compative Sounds (loudness) by Pressure Levels of 11 Masks
I tried to copy and paste the chart below but it didn't work for me. If anyone knows how to do it, please post it in this thread to make it easier for everyone else.

comparative sounds
I don't exactly understand your chart, as my activa is silent except when it has a leak - are all these mask noises measured when leaking?

I'm new to PAP and I've only used nasal pillow systems since I started treatment, and none of them: Swift, Breeze, or Aura, is silent by al long shot. It is the one thing I have against them. But, are you saying you can't here a hiss or pssst or whroom upon inhaling with your Activa?
I gotta try one if that is the case.

It is not my chart, it is SomnoPlus's chart, duplicated on cpap.com's site.
But yeah, I too think my Active is pretty much silent while I'm breathing when compared to nasal pillows or prongs - the only other masks I still have around. The ProLite from Respironics went into the trash can as soon as I got the Activa, which was my third mask, i think.
I really like the Activa, especially since my nose just won't accept a nasal pillow or prong.
But I've developed either a mouth breathing pattern or my BiPap pressure of 16/11 is causing the pressured air to escape out of my mouth. Dry mouth. And the averae leak is ranging from 45 to 62. I'm going to try a full face mask for the first time. Haven't decided of the Ultra Mirage or the Hans Rudpolph yet.

Yes, if I don't have any leaks, it is absolutely silent - or my husband would kick me, as he does when I get a leak. The only noise I get is just a little inhale noise from the machine, and funnily enough, if I am not lying on my back, I don't get that. I'm a big fan of Activa and for that matter, CPAP.
That's why I don't understand the chart.

From the chart it looks as thought the Activa is the second lowest at higher pressures. But I can't be sure because my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, even 5 years ago.
The only other mask on the list that I have tried is the Profile Lite, and that was much louder than the Activa. The chart does not include Swift, Nasalair, Aura, Snapp (which was quiet), etc.
So, since I haven't tried those others on the chart, I can't explain it either. The SomnoPlus must be totally silent even when leaking.
But with all the Activa leaks I have, I hardly notice any increase in the sound level.
Maybe my ears have also started to go in the last few months, and since I know my memory is in the process of going, I only think the Prolite was louder. Tough when one gets old.

I tried the Somnoplus. It's very, very quiet. A nice mask. Wasn't very leaky either. I just prefer nasal pillows masks and prefer the Activa if I use a nasal mask. But for sound alone, the Somnoplus is virtually dead silent.
I think the reason you don't see nasal pillows interfaces tested on that chart is because the comparisons they were doing were masks of the same type as the Somnoplus -- nasal masks (cover the nose.)
