Calist is a troll and provides neither support nor advice. I believe that he should go.

I also received a very nice PM from a different person actually offering me his backup machine since I was having trouble with mine! (though I declined since my problem was from using the mask wrong.) I appreciate this site very much.
fwiw I think the DS100 you show in your equip listing does not provide ANY data. Data is extremely useful in finding the problems we all seem to go thru when using cpap machines.
On another note -
Those who knew or remember Snoredog (RIP), knew he was rough around the edges but here is a quote I long remember from him -
- Snoredog wrote:In PM's there is NO one to scrutinize that bad advice to indicate otherwise. In public, if I suggest something that isn't quite kosher, you can be assured there will be someone else to come along like -SWS, dsm or SAG to let not only me but more importantly YOU know it isn't right. SO in a PM you lose that scrutiny and doing so can even be dangerous. It is why I generally make it policy NOT to discuss these items in private PM's, no one learns and you get better suggestions.
Said another way -
- Snoredog wrote:That is your own fault for using PM's to resolve your problem, it doesn't fall under the scrutiny of others to correct if it wrong or bad advice.
If everyone did everything via PM's no one would learn anything from it.

I believe I received a PM last night from the person in which you speak. He sent me to that Binary Sleep place. Just letting you know.

Re: Message to forumdamin: misuse of PM's.
I sometimes receive PMs asking for advice on masks, leaks, pressure settings and I will explain (gently of course ) that they will be better served by asking questions like that on the open forum so there will be no chance of getting incorrect information and it's also the best way to interact and get to know each other. I do exchange PMs of a personal nature such as marital situations(my specialty!) or if I myself have a question that I'm too embarrassed to ask online because I should know the answer by now!

I'm sorry to see calist suggesting that cpap users ask questions over at binarysleep.com.FatiguedMe wrote:Here is my pm recieved from Calist this morning!

calist wrote: Hi there. I noticed that you were asking sleep questions earlier. I just wanted to welcome you to the forum and ask, have you been to http://www.binarysleep.com/ ?
This forum is not intended to give out medical advice. This is the forum for CPAP.com which sells CPAP equipment. Binarysleep however is a non-proffit forum filled with sleep doctors, sleep techs, nurses and respiratory therapists. They are great for giving advice and helping people with sleep questions. Go check them out, I think they can answer your sleep questions a lot better.
I've lurk-read binarysleep for many years, but I've never posted even once there...and never will. I regard binarysleep as a place just for sleep professionals to post in. I don't think it's a forum for cpap users to ask questions in or make comments in. It's an interesting board to read, but it's not a forum intended for user support.
I don't think calist is doing either binarysleep or the members of cpaptalk a service when he tries to encourage people here to ask "sleep questions" over at binarysleep. I don't believe the members of binarysleep would appreciate one bit his suggesting that cpap users... "patients"... start coming in there to post "sleep questions."
One specific part of binarysleep.com's disclaimer is what makes me -- as a cpap user, not someone working in "sleep medicine" -- respect their sandbox and not ask any questions there:
"THIS SITE IS DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE WHO WORK IN SLEEP MEDICINE"
I would encourage people here to leave binarysleep in peace. Read it if you wish (I do, occasionally) but I don't think it would be productive at all for cpap users ("patients") to post questions or comments there.

Such good advice. Any of the sleep techs who post there are welcome to come here, of course, and help out, but I don't think patients should be asking questions in that forum.rested gal wrote:I would encourage people here to leave binarysleep in peace.

I agree with RG. The sleep techs there are referring cpap user who accidenty post in binarysleep back to cpaptalk.com.

And they were nice to him and didn't call him Stupid. I think Calist's rants, raves and dissemination of wrong information is doing serious disservice to BOTH sites.OutaSync wrote:I agree with RG. The sleep techs there are referring cpap user who accidenty post in binarysleep back to cpaptalk.com.

Re: Message to forumdamin: misuse of PM's.
calist, You need to look at binarylist.com forum - there is an entire section on salaries. I read a few of the posts and in all of them - Surprise! Surprise! - people are wanting higher salaries, not lower ones. So maybe you want to trash that forum since the people posting there have a greedy purpose of getting more money out of the pockets of the poor sick patients.calist wrote:I have a problem with a DME store website that creates a forum for the purposes of generating traffic to their business

Re: Message to forumdamin: misuse of PM's.
Well, I agree with you both as well... And we each necessarily form our own opinions. There's no doubt in MY mind that Calist would have loved to play the two otherwise productive forums against each other---and then sit back and smugly watch the ensuing commotion. His closing signature now proudly displays three separate disgruntled quotes---from our members whom he disgruntled with obvious satisfaction.OutaSync wrote:I agree with RG. Do you think anyone with a shred of human compassion would proudly display three disgruntled quotes that they managed to elicit---as if those three were trophies to show off? I would personally like to see every one of his posts removed. I want to see those three trophies of his removed at the very least.
This message board has ALWAYS been about human decency---people building other people, and not tearing them down as Scrapper recently put it.
Re: Message to forumdamin: misuse of PM's.
Thanks, -SWS, for this comment. I am not pleased that one of my comments is being used, mainly because without the full text, it's read out of context. The comment I made BEFORE it was something along the lines that he's rude, abusive and gives out inaccurate information -- then my comment.-SWS wrote:Do you think anyone with a shred of human compassion would proudly display three disgruntled quotes that they managed to elicit---as if those three were trophies to show off? But true to form, he picked out comments that COULD be used to support his side rather than being honest.
I hope that enough people have become publicly outraged at his antics and he'll be dealt with accordingly. Let's cross our fingers.

Re: Message to forumdamin: misuse of PM's.
I totally agree CAlist AND HIS ILK have to go......some of us (MOST) of us didn't care for him OR his attitude from the start. And when my doc said something yesterday for a moment, I even wondered if he could be CALIST....so last night I went into chat room and said, "hi everyone, hi calist...etc...so today i saw sleep doc and he said something for a moment I thought was you calist.".....and do you know calist's response??? He said something to the effect, "was it nasty?" HELLLLLOOO!!! That was the last response I expected....and I think only a little kid (or someone who is UNprofessional and acts like a little kid) would say something like that. So this morning I am here and see he is PM'ing people advertising a competitive site....I DON"T LIKE that. This is the site that helped me more than my docs put together. Without this site I'd have not known what questions even to be asking. And I went to binary sleep and while they say it is non-profit....there is no way of knowing that for sure.
Besides even though this site is owned by CPAP.com....they do not advertise to us ....they just maintain the site and out of our LIKING them we can choose to shop at cpap.com IF we WISH.....I know they get my money because I like this site...and yeah I like it that we have some R.T.'s that come here...I love the DeVilbiss Marketing keeps an eye on us....but I don't even want to go to a website full of sleep docs techs, RT's.....
So my vote is CAlist leaves the island
And that in the future that anyone that acts similarly gets booted off the island not too long after they land and show their true colors....
There is an old saying, "spend enough time with a wolf in sheep's clothing and the wolf will reveal himself."
CAlist has finally showed his sheep's clothing.
Also, if we needed to get ahold of someone, couldn't we just pick up a phone and call the cpap.com telephone number?
Also, I'm involved with another website where it is a rule you cannot state you are a "professional" in that field without producing to the forum administrator the proof. I like that. It keeps that website pretty clear of wannabe's who purport they know what they are talking about when they are just a 3rd year studeng in the subject...
My two cents...P.S. have I told ya'all today I love cpaptalk.com....AND cpap.com
