chronic cough since using S9 w/humidifier

Post by Flower51 » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:23 pm

Hi. I used to use a diff model and make of cpap w/heated humidifier set at a much lower minimum pressure than now. For some months of using the S9 I've had a chronic cough, possibly from post nasal drip that seems to have developed since using this cpap. It gives me very good therapy and is quiet and I wouldn't want to go back to my old machine but what's the story???? I do notice that if I turn off the humidifier this doesn't happen so much, but then my nose is uncomfortable dry in the morning. Anyone else experience this? Have you found anyway to tweak things so it helps? Thanks, Terry

Could you have a sinus infection or something going on?

It's OK to turn off the humidifer or run it in "passover" mode (no heat). To address the dry nose you can do the following:
1. Use a saline nasal spray to keep the tissues hydrated, like Simply Saline.
2. Drink more fluids (this really helps!).
3. Use a room humidifier rather than one delivering humidity directly to your nose.

So why didn't I think of that? LOL Good common sense ideas. Thanks, Terry
