For me, these are the most important points in the book.

Have you read the book?
Are you using any of the techniques?

I use/practice his relaxation/sleep techniques every night.
I use the SOLO technique in my everyday life.
It is great when things seem to be getting out of hand,
to take a few minutes and calm your mind and refocus.

The name of the book is

Sound Sleep Sound Mind 7 Keys to Sleeping through the Night
(The Drug-Free, mind-body approach to getting the sleep you need)
By Barry Krakow, M.D.

Uncle Bob has recomended this book many times on the forum, so have others.

I love this book.

If so, which one/s have had the biggest
impact on your sleep hygiene?

For me, removing the clock from the bedroom
and stopping the clock watching/calculating
habit was the hardest.
TFI(thought/feeling/image) balancing has had
the biggest impact in being able to go to sleep
and return to sleep in the middle of the night.

I'm very lucky to have great body awareness. And being female I'm very in touch with my feelings.
I don't think I have emotional issues as I have dealt with my feelings very well.

But, I also found the SOLO minute and practicing TFI to be very helpful. I try to do it often during the day.
And, now I refuse to look at the clock if I wake up in the middle of the night.
But I do have to confess to counting the hours I slept. Wrong I know.

This book is full of helpful suggestions.

Thank you for this thread! I caught part of the program yesterday and was meaning to post. What I found really fascinating was his discussion of Post Traumatic Stress and, I think I heard this right, the relatively high incidence of apnea diagnoses that follow it. It sounded like he was saying that significant stress can start fragmenting the natural cycles of sleep, and that in turn can lead to changes in respiratory patterns that down the line become apnea. I just ordered his book because I have a hunch something like that may have happened in my case after extended caregiving at night. In any case, his sleep hygiene methods and encouragement about CPAP sound like the ticket, regardless of cause. I was very impressed.

I've seen the book recommended on here several times, and always think I'd like to read it. Thanks for the reminder. Will have to see if it's at the library. Secret Agent Girl, good to see you back, and loving your new avatar!
