Celebrities and Sleep Apnea

Post by SleepyGuy » Sun Jan 16, 2005 4:19 pm

We all know about Reggie White and how sleep apnea was a part of what killed him. I've been thinking that there were things about the deaths of other celebrities that make me suspicious that sleep apnea may have been a factor.

The first that comes to mind is Elvis. He died young of a stroke. He had gained weight. Many people here report gastrointestinal related problems and we know he had terrible GI problems. In fact, he had to wear a colostomy bag. The major thing missing is any evidence that he snored. Has anyone heard anything about that?

This is strictly a suspicion. That's all.

We really don't get much news up here but who said Elvis was dead? I go camping with him quite a bit at Wasaga Beach - longest fresh water beach in the world - and he hums a lot in his sleep but I've never really heard him snore! In fact, last July and every July - he and many of his lookalikes were singing their heads off in Collingwood ON. The only one who looked like they were tired and ready for bed was that old Basset hound he had with him.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist! Christmas is over and I had to put all my singing Elvis ornaments away for another year. This year my wife bought me the new Elvis concert from Hawaii CD to replace the old VHS tape I've had for years.

It really bugs me that Elvis and probably others who made a difference in our lives could have stayed a little longer with the proper diagnoses and treatment.
