Ripped Seal

Post by cybergoon » Thu Oct 27, 2005 7:15 am

Yesterday, I woke up with air shooting into my eye from my mask. While cleaning the seal, I noticed that it had ripped from the bottom of where it sits on my nose, all the way up to the thick part above the nose. I am using the FlexiFit 431 FF mask. I looked up the cost to replace that seal and it is around $80!!! I haven't even had this for a month. I will be calling my DME today.

So, last night when I found the problem, I switched to the large seal that came with my mask. I had a hell of a time getting it to seal up, but once I did, I got a pretty decent nights sleep. However, when I woke up this morning, I could barely open my eyes. Both of my eyelids were swollen huge. I have never had my eyes that puffed up, including after drunken bar room brawls.

Anyone have any idea why this could be? The larger seal does sit higher on my face (right against the top of my nose). I thought maybe with the mask that far up, it was maybe pushing the blood out from the areas where the mask are and it all ended up in my eyelids.

I just got off the phone with my DME and they told me that insurance will not cover the ripped seal, since I haven't had it for 3 months yet??? WTF is up with that???

cybergoon,
I use the mirage activa, I have puffy eyes quite a lot upon waking. Nothing is wrong with my mask. All I could figure out, is that I must leak air around my eyes during the night. Can anyone out there in CPAP Land help us???

Well, I had met a travelling DME salesman at the tailgate last weekend. I called him and explained to him and he is in the area and is going to stop by my work today and give me a new seal. No charge. We are also going to setup a meeting next week for him to come into my home and actually fit me for a mask. He said he has several for me to try and we will find one that will work for me and get me setup. I really like this guy and hope he proves to be better than Apria.
