Re: How do YOU dry the hose?
I have been taught by my DME to wash my hose every other day--yup, that often. I usually put a little Dawn down the hose, rinse it out with water from my bathtub faucet until the water runs clear, then hang it either over the shower rod or on a hook on my bathroom door to dry. By bedtime, my hose is dry and ready for use again. I wash all the parts of my mask with Dawn, except for my mask base, which DME told me to wash weekly in vinegar and water.
Is this way off?
I have only been using CPAP for about 2 weeks.

Re: How do YOU dry the hose?
My DMe company told me the same thing. They said to wash the mask daily to get the dirt and skin oil off. The guy said the hose needs to be washed daily because I use a heated humidifier and this can allow organisms to grow in the wet/warm hose pretty fast. Everyone has said the hose and mask is a highway to our lungs and can give us infections quckly if we don't keep this stuff clean. I was using vinegar but found a cleaning product called respisoak at MVAP when I got the CPAP dryer unit. When I wahs my mask with soap, I just leave the headgear on it cause it's easier and I hate putting the straps back on. The hurricane gets it dry with the headgear still attached. This is pretty convenient. I cant' stand the vinegar smell, so thats why i'm using the respisoak. hope this helps.

I wash the hose monthly or so in hot soapy water (less if I'm feeling lazy), swing it around to get all the big drops out, then hang it over a door for the rest of the day to dry. Never had a problem with it. If you wash it in the AM, it will be dry by bedtime.

Re: How do YOU dry the hose?
What about those of us who deal with severe rain-out? Since there is so much water in the hose each day, will hanging it up really dry it? I know nothing about the scientific effects, but I FEEL like the water in there is all from my breath and it kind of grosses me out. I feel like it needs to be clean and dry and fresh everyday and since my room is like an iceberg (I like it that way) I don't think it really ever dries out.
Am I asking for trouble by not drying my hose?

Re: How do YOU dry the hose?
The machine is pushing much more air at you than you are at it. You really don't contaminate the hose with your breath.
And mold needs more than moisture to grow. It needs a food source.
You should clean the sealing parts of your mask (pillows, cushions, etc.) daily. Wash the headgear once a week, maybe more often if you use a lot of hair product.
The hose can probably wait even longer, but once a week can't hurt. Vinegar/water, dish detergent/water, or mouthwash/water should be fine.

Go to a store that sells air mattresses and buy the little blowers that blow them up.
I got the idea after seeing one being blown up. It takes about 5 mins and it is dry.
I tried a hair dryer but they get way too hot.
The air mattress pump gets a little warm just enough to get the job done.

get the Hurricane cpap supply dryer, works great
Re: How do YOU dry the hose?
I disconnect the mask but leave the machine with hose attached running for 10 minutes every morning. Never wash it.
