Recycling Hoses

Post by stepht » Sat Jul 25, 2009 9:39 pm

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if it is possible to recycle our cpap hoses, or should I just throw them away? I have used these two hoses for over two years and am now using new ones. Thanks so much.

Is there anything "wrong" with them?
I've been using the very same (original) hose for over four years. I do have a number of spares, but haven't had a need to use them yet.

Wow, has it been that long already!? Hope everything is going well with your treatment. I have found a secondary use for old hoses. Cut a slit up one side and use them as cord corrals, get two from each hose, and they will hold about 3 cords - no more tangles.

Mine will go in the plastics recycling bin along with any other plastic going out that week.

Um, yeah, while this topic is floating about, how long do people generally use hoses, and how do you decide it's time for a new one?

BTW, a cord corral is a great idea. Now I just have to wait a few years.

connect a few togethger and have a ghetto jumprope?

beats me.... insurance pays for new ones every 3 or 6 months... will probably keep the one prior as a spare and then use the new one to prevent anything bad from building up in the tubing...
I soak in baby shampoo and water and then white vinegar and water every week, but im sure something nasty grows in em over time...

Above is my cpap tubing with the left side tubing wall membrane 'stretched'.
This happened from connecting directly to the angled port on the ResMed cpap humidifier and not supporting the cpap hose at the same angle.

When you remove the tubing from the cpap or humidifier and do not grip the tubing cuff, you may rupture the tubing wall as well.

The weight of the insulated hose hanging down eventually caused this.
I did not notice until I removed the insulated cover that was on the tube.

Also in the picture on the right is a Parker Elbow Adaptor, which attatches to the tubing and connects to your cpap or humidifier.
The elbow adaptor helps extend the life of the tubing by reducing "tube flexing" at the cpap and humidifier.

This adaptor and information was included with the Sleepzone Heated Tube I recently purchased.

I am taking the old cpap tube over to LinkC's place to siphon some gas.

Cpap.com sells those little angled adapters that work on both the M Series and the older models for way cheap. I use them on both styles machines and have yet to have a problem with any of my hoses.

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... -cpap.html

It replaces the M Series swivel adapter, which leaked for some people. Never leaked on me. I use it on the older Remstar so I don't bend the hose out of shape.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)
