Ears Ringing

Post by Sandy » Wed Sep 14, 2005 10:45 pm

I have been at a pressure of 16, arrived at during my titration test, for almost three weeks. I am experiencing a lot of ringing in my ears since my pressure was increased to 16...previously it was 12 and I was not feeling well so we did the titration test. I have a C-Flex Auto CPAP machine. I started using a chin strap when I began these higher pressures because I was so dry as i sleep with my mouth open. I alternate between a full face mask and just the one covering my nose depending on if I'm stuffed up or not. The ringing is really starting to get to me. In addition, my left ear sort of feels like I have fluid in it. Any suggestions? I am fairly new to all this. Should I discuss this with my doctor? I'm sure the ringing has to do with the pressure being so high.

Ringing is usually tinnitus, this seems to me unrelated to CPAP.

I have tinnitus and have had it since approx 1987. My daughter also has it but it is not hereditary for either of us - she was a lead singer in a rock band in her teens & I have no doubt that was how she got it & mine was due to industrial noise.

It has not got better or worse since CPAP. tinnitus does tend to get louder if your blood pressure rises & that of course happens at times with us xPAPers.

My bet is that if it is tinnitus then it preceded CPAP and is going thru the normal deterioration cycle that triggered it.

But I may well be off target.

Good luck

In any case - yes, do contact the doctor.
