Full mask for Downs Syndrome daughter

Post by Saraliz » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:41 am

Hi Everyone:

I need some help. My 28 year old daughter with Downs Syndrome uses comfortgel mask at the moment. We are having trouble with leaking and also the hose falling off during the night.

She moves alot during the night. She also has a very flat bridge on her nose.

Any thoughts on another full face to try?

Thanks so much

You might want to look at the Liberty and the Hybrid. Both are full face masks but they use nasal pillows rather than fitting over the nose.

True guest, there are those and they work great.

There is also the "no-mask" mask.

I have a few thoughts, but no real answers.

The FF ComfortGel doesn't have the customizable gel. If she can use a nasal, switching to the CG Nasal and customizing it might help the nose bridge sealing. Another option might be a nasal pillow/prong mask, but the amount of night movement may make that impractical.

By "hose falling off" do you mean the mask's QD (quick disconnect), or the hose collar? How old is the hose? Unless the collar is really stretched out, I can't imagine night movement would pull it off. Try turning the hose around (using the end currently on the machine for the mask). Or maybe a "hose hanger" to give the hose more play.

Reading LinkC's post made me remember that I have a ComfortGel Nasal mask that I was test driving. I haven't had any takers on it, but if you would like to try it, you can. It's a medium and has never been formed. I only wore it twice and decided against it b/c I mouth breathe too much. Let me know if would you like to try it.

Kevin

Thanks so much for all the responses. I will check out the masks and also work on the hose. It is the hose collar that falls off the mask. The hose is replaced every 6 months. Will try turning it around.

She is also a mouth breather Kevin so I don't think the nasal mask will work for her. But it is so nice of you to offer!

I'll keep you posted on our progress.
