Children with sleep apnea

Post by cricket » Mon Dec 27, 2004 2:57 pm

I am looking for information about the long term effects on children with sleep apnea. I have a young child with both central and obstructive sleep apnea. Is this something that can be out grown? Will the child need a c-pap for the rest of the child's life?

If the OSA is moderate to severe you'll have the CPAP for the rest of your days. Welcome to the club! Best. Wayne

Our 7 year old daughter was just diagnosed today. We go back after surgery to see if she still has apnea. Hang in there.

Dillard, what kind of surgery? Tonsillectomy? Always sorry to hear about a child is afflicted with OSA. Hard enough for adult patients to find semi-comfortable treatment.

Children and CPAP

CRICKET, I am very interested to learn if your daughter had her tonsils and adnoinds out before being put on CPAP? That was our Neurologist's recommendation so we are scheduling for surgery and then a follow up sleep study. DILLARD

Our child did not have enlarged tonsils or adenoids and therefore was not a candidate for surgery. They believe that the obstruction is caused by muscles that relax and collapse during sleep.
