Another Delay in getting machine -- Please advise quickly!

Post by lanndi » Wed Jun 03, 2009 1:23 pm

So my allergy doc sent over the Rx for an APAP as requested, EXCEPT she had a firm setting of 7, rather than a range. The DME called the sleep lab rather than the doc to get this corrected, so what's a typical range? (Won't see sleep doc until August!)

My titration results indicated that settings of 5, 6, 7 looked good, but they did not test 5 & 6 during REM.

Trying to catch doc while she is in the office today!

Thanks!!

an apap can be set for a fixed pressure - what's the problem?

Can an APAP set up as APAP have a fixed pressure or only when it's in the cpap mode?

You can really do it either way. You can set the high and low at 7, for example, and you get full data but it works at only one pressure and as an APAP. You can also set it to a CPAP at 7.

If you do want to give a range, do no more than 2cm above and below your tritrated pressure but not less than 5 on the bottom number.

If you have a "prescribed" fixed pressure, you want to make sure you try that before messing with a range of pressures.

In APAP mode, it can be set with the minimum and maximum pressure the same or it can be set to a single pressure in CPAP mode.

Do you have software and card reader to see what's going on? If not, straight pressure (CPAP mode) is where you need to be......AT THE PRESCRIBED PRESSURE (till it is determined that it either does or doesn't work for you).

get the machine home then worry about it - just get the blasted APAP home

max and min of the same numbers will work on remstar tank APAP

For new users, they NEED to try their titrated pressure for a reasonable period of time before experimenting with ranges......and then, ONLY with the use of software to see what's happening.

DME says I will not get an APAP machine from DME unless I have a range -- even though it can be used as a CPAP.

Either way, the script needs to be written as a cpap with straight pressure setting or an apap with a range.

Your DME is a moron.

If you could get your doctor to write a prescription for 7 - 10 cm., that would be sufficient to get it out of their shop.

sounds like you need to get the doc to specify a range not you

for a resmed I would ask for 7 to 7.2, for a m series 7 to 7.5

even with those I bet the DME will fight it - it means less profit for them

What Den said ... especially the first part.

Have your doc set 7 min and 10 max.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Yes, that's my adorable long-haired chihuahua, Buddy. I hope he can adapt to xPAP therapy, too!

The DME that I work for uses all auto machines. If an order is for straight CPAP, then we put it in the CPAP mode. The manager thought that it was more cost-effective to do this because our sleep docs like to do titration trials quite often if a pt is having problems. This way, we never have to issue another machine...simply put theirs into auto mode with a range. We never issue a machine without full data capability either.
