help!!!
hi, i have copd and now have a bad case of bronchitas (probably spelled wrong) has anyone ever tried putting vicks or something like that in the humidifier? i don't want to hurt my machine but i need to do something and of course its the weekend. thanks for any help you can give me

Sorry to hear of your Bronchytis!! I am from the school that puts nothing except distilled water in my humidifier! Not because I fear hurting it, but because I don't see how you could control dosage and I don't want my lungs being pumped full of gunk. That said, I would certainly try a dab in some warm water and put a towel over my head and breath it in for a while before retiring. I sometimes take a hot bath, float a pan of hot water in the tub with me and add a little Vicks to that and breath it in with all the humidty from the bath.

The instructions for my Resmed HumidAire 2i unit say " CAUTION do not use additives, in particulararomaticadditives(eg eucalyptus oil,lavenderoil). Thesemay cause deteriorationof the water chambermaterials.
Besides, When you use a humifier with scented oils in your home the scent is dispersedtoa large area before you breathe it. If you use it with your cpap it goes full strenght into your lungs.
I would use it in the shower before going to bed.

Bronchitis Problems
When treating bronchitis, use the keep it simple method. The best way to get rid of bronchitis is to increase the water intake in your airways to help in mucus removal.. Sounds gross and is gross but that's what bronchitis is folks. Clean out those bronchial tubes by turning up the humidifier.

vicks in humidifier
Hi,
My doctor said it would be ok to try (sinus infection....never had bronchitis). I use the liquid stuff made for humidifiers. I only put 1/2 capfull or less in a full humidifier (fisher paykel HC150). I also let the stuff settle in for a minute or two. and sometimes it helps to let the CPAP run for 20-30 seconds wihtout putting the mask on...this helps to remove the initial smell....
this has helped me as has using afrin (for 3 days only!)....
to be safe, I'd check with your doctor first.....
