New Sleep Doctor and DME

Post by Sergeant Bob » Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:22 am

I went to my new doctor yesterday and was very satisfied with the results.
He is a Pulmonologist from India who was a critical care physician for 15 years. He is very knowledgeable and will answer any question in great detail, making sure you understand the whats and whys of treatment.

I am using a ResMed Autoset and have been writing down all my numbers(my DME needs about 2 weeks advance motice to download my data) for quite a while so he was able to see the progress of my treatment.

I showed him my "frequenseeker DIY MAD device and he was pretty impressed with it and the results.

I also told him I had been adjusting my pressures and that I had settled at 14.6 cm. He thought that was great and had no problem with my taking over my own treatment.

He told me I could go to a straight CPAP if I wanted. I told him I would like to be able to read my data so I could monitor and improve my treatment (and that I learned more about it from this forum than from my previous doctor and my DME combined) so he got me a new DME and prscribed and APAP.

I talked to the new DME and she was very helpful (although not extremely knowledgeable about different machines) and cooperative. She said she would order me a Respironics APAP, I told her I would rather have a Goodnight 420E and she said no problem. She's even going to see if she can sneak the SilverLining software into the order.

I'll hopefully only have to come up with a download cable for it. Does anyone here (Snork!) know if it takes a special cable or will a standard serial cable work? I see the price of some of those cable from the manufacturer are $50 to $60. That Highway robbery!.

Good luck with your new machine. I've had my PB 420 E for about a week now. This is my first machine and so far, things are working out pretty well but I am still tweaking.

Anyhow, on the cable, chances are it will come with the software unless you were told otherwise. The cable I have is a phone plug to serial cable,

I don't know for a fact that this is a proprietary cable since the machine is set up to plug in to a telephone jack.

Great news about your new sleep doc AND your new DME. It is always good to hear about doctors and DME's who really care about their patients and will do everything within their power/position to ensure compliance.

Thanks Michael. I hope it isn't too expensive or maybe I can rig one up. Glad to hear you like your machine so far.

Thanks FF. Yeah, my doctor is great, and he's all for me monitoring and modifying my own treatment. His assistant just picked up the phone and called the DME and put in the order for me before I even left the office.

I haven't actually met my new DME but, I talked to her on the phone and she sounded like she'll be real easy to work with. Everything I asked for she said she would do and didn't try to tell me what I wanted.
As for masks, she said she could order whatever I wanted, although most of her clients had real good luck with the Activa.

Actually, you can mentally thank -SWS and dizzy for that cable "fix".

I didn't have a clue what they were talking about.
