Solved now! Encore Pro - Unable to connect to server

Post by Fredman » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:31 pm

I used to have Encore Pro on my computer a while back and have decided to re-install it and the pre-requisite SQL Server. SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (free edition) was a bit of work to get going.

I can't get Encore to connect to the specified database...that's what at least it is telling me. I have tried on the SQL Server side using studio to do all sorts of things. I have tried exploring on the Encore side...nada.

I have deleted the defaulted Encore server name in Encore Pro and pasted the server name running:
MARK-A64E61FC9A\SQLEXPRESS

Any help would be appreciated!

Yikes, Fredman! EncorePro is about as stable as an already exploding nuclear bomb Is that the version of SQL Server that came with EncorePro or did you get that from somewhere else? About the only thing I can suggest is to uninstall anything and everything associated with (or even breathed on by) EncorePro and start from scratch!

Thanks Mindy. The SQL Server was downloaded from Microsoft as a free download.

I basically had to uninstall both programs, Encore would not let me...anyways I was able to mess around and now it works. I believe I had installed SQL Server first so when I installed Encore Pro it defaulted to SQLExpress and not to the Encore Pro database.

Thank goodness. Now I want to install James Skinner's add-on to get more reporting options.

Glad to hear you got it working, Fredman! With these not so standard pieces of software, changing any one thing (like a different version of SQL Server) can wreck such amazing havoc.

I'm reading this series of posts because I'm having similar issues connecting to the SQL server.

I'm running XP PRO sp3 w/Encore Pro. Somehow, the server it is looking for or trying to connect with is not available, and it will not let me change anything to look for a different server, etc.

Is this a delete and reinstall issue? Do I need to download a different SQL server or something?

Thanks in advance.

You need to install the version of SQL server that is packaged with EncorePro.

Thanks. I'll do a delete and reinstall and see what happens.

Mindy is right...I was able to change the server in SQL but it was not easy. If you use the SQL Server that was packaged with Pro it creates a Encore Pro "server" location as opposed to SQL default.
