HELP Please! M Series Pro Data Info and mask issues

Post by FatiguedMe » Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:33 am

Good Morning,
I am using the M-Series Pro, but I can only get data from LCD Screen. Can't afford the Encore software at this time, actually not sure when I will be able too. I am hoping someone can help me out with the little bit of Info I get from screen. Here are my numbers..

7 Days sessions 6
30 Day sessions 8

Leaks 52.7 7 day average
51.7 30 day average

AHI 5.4 7 day average
7.4 30 day average

For masks I have: Quattro, UMFF, 2 comfort full gel masks (L,M), Tried the liberty (am returning to cpap.com) ALL of them leak. I also got the papcap (love it, but need to get the tension right)
I am at my wits end here, I can't get a good seal on any of them that holds. What other options do I have? I am a BIG MOUTH breather LOL!

Last night I slept with the UMFF and my papcap, I am still using the headgear over my cap. Kept getting woke up from leaks and when I woke up my eyes are swollen, face mask prints completely around nose area and into corner of eyes, papcap chinstrap was printed into my neck area. HELP!!
Please I am begging for any input and help!
Thank you in advance,
Fatigued!

FM,

Sorry you are having so much trouble with the mask. At this point don't worry about the software. You need to get the mask under control first.

Three things I can recommend. First, study over and over the manufacturer's instructions for adjusting the mask and headgear. If video is available, watch it over and over.

Second, take your machine and set it in front of a mirror like maybe at your lavatory. Put the mask on in front of the mirror. Have the manufacturer's adjusting instructions with you and go over each point carefully. Then connect the hose and turn the machine on. Check for leaks. Move your head around some and again check for leaks. Make more adjustments if necessary always referring to the instruction sheets. A common mistake for newbies is to adjust the mask too tight. Avoid this temptation as it often causes more leaks plus other problems. Most masks are designed to work better if adjusted lightly.

Third, part of this is perseverance. Be determined to make it work.

If you are like most of us you have spent years undiagnosed/untreated and are "worn down". You have to muster the energy to make the mask work and calling on this energy may be a big challenge. After your therapy is working well, challenges will not be so difficult to overcome.

Best of luck and keep asking questions,

BTW, when moving the machine around be careful not to let it fall. Also, keep the machine level when carrying it to avoid water running from the humidifier tank into the electrical components.

Thank you Rooster!
Actually I can move a mirror to my machine so that will make it easier. Another Problem though I can't find my book with the UMFF and that is the one that seems to be getting my numbers to come down. (I know you said don't worry about numbers right now but! LOL)
I am going to see if I can find the instructions online anywhere.
Thank you so much,
Fatigued

I really feel for you. I use to have problems with leaks big time found out didn't have the right fit . I was getting a lot of chafing and huge imprints from the masks. One thing that I found was extremely important is to wash your face well with ph balanced soap and then before i put on the mask at night i also use witch hazel its gentle to the skin and it gets up all the excessive oils its relatively cheap also. I too have the Quattro mask [the perfect fit for me was small] and I recently got Fisher & Paykal "Forma" mask its new and well cushioned and comfortable and no more leaks. I wish you well and this is a great place to go when your having problems with any issues actually. Hang in there, don't give up.

My husband uses the UMFF and the trick that he learned was to put the mask on rather loosely, (at the beginning he did it in the mirror, now just at the side of the bed),then lie down and make final adjustments making straps a little snug but not tight, then turn on machine and turn face to either side to feel for any leaks and make final adjustments. The face seems to change contours after lying down. Good luck.

I believe it would be better to get away from the "average" numbers and jot down the nightly numbers each morning. (need to wait at least an hour before they're available in the LCD)

By the way, you have the wrong machine and humidifier in your profile. The one in your profile is the older Legacy model and not the M Series.

Den

Menu for M Series Pro

1. Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the power on the back, wait for 2 beeps, release buttons.
2. Press the + key. <- -> buttons move to next field, -/+ keys decrement/increment
3. Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode = CPAP

-CPAP Pressure = NN (4 - 20 cm.)

-C-Flex Setting = (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-Ramp Time = (options are 05 to 45 min)

-Ramp Start Pressure = cm (Min. 4cm)

-Mask Alert Feature = On (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature = Off (On/off)

-Show AHI/Leak Feature = On (On/Off)

Press On/Off button to exit.

==========Resetting LCD Display Data====================

To reset LCD Therapy data (does NOT erase any data from SmartCard):

1. Hold down the (<-) (->) buttons while plugging in the power on the back,
wait for 2 beeps or 5 seconds, release buttons.
2. Press the (->) key and navigate to Therapy screen.
3. Press and HOLD down the (-) minus key for 5 seconds and/or until therapy data is reset to Zero.
4. Press the (->) key to scroll back to main menu, press (+) key to enter Setup or
On/Off button to exit.
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

I agree with Den on looking at the numbers. I did exactly what he said before I had software.

Thank you all SO MUCH! for your input. I truly appreciate it.
Rooster I napped today with my Quattro doing as you said and had much better results with it. I plan on trying the same with all of the masks I have but I think I will keep the Quattro as primary for now. Hoping to get away from the looking like I got hit by a MAck Truck soon LOL!
Den Thank you so much for the menu prompts I will try that tomorrow and post my info back.
Thanks again so much. Ladies I am very appreciative of any advice that will help me in this wonderful new journey I am on!
Hey If it helps me feel better I am all for it!

Good to hear. That Mack Truck is not invincible. You can whip it in the later rounds.
