M Series Plus C-Flex vs S8 Elite II

Post by ChrisC » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:04 am

Well, I'm 2 hours before my appointment to pick up equipment, and I'm actually very (very) excited. If you've been following my posts at all, you'll know that I've been (impatiently) waiting for a while for this opportunity and can't wait to start my therapy.

I've really narrowed it down to either the M series or the S8 Elite II. I've read that the S8 Elite II is considerably quieter, and that you can get data straight from the machine. However, the M series seems to be more 'battery friendly' with a built in DC adapter. One of my considerations is that I want a machine that can easily be operated on battery backup.

I've been set on the S8 Elite II for a while but, before my appointment, I've been giving some last-minute-considerations to the M-Series.. I want to get opinions on here, because I want to be rock-solid on my choices before I get into the DME!!!

There is no comparison between the two. Comparing the M Series Plus w/the Elite II is comparing apples to oranges. The Plus is ONLY capable of producing compliance data which has absolutely no value to you. The Elite II is fully data capable AND the Resmeds can not be beat for ease of access to and amount of data available via the LCD screen.

IF battery use is of great importance to you, and the Resmeds can be used w/a battery (just different requirements, maybe more expensive equipment to do so, use on a battery is not of any importance to me), then the Respironics M Series Pro w/C-Flex is the device you should be looking at. Comparing the Pro and the Elite would be comparing oranges to oranges. Both are fully data capable.

I think when you are comparing the Remstar M Series Plus to the Resmed S8 Elite 11, as Slinky says, you are comparing apples and oranges.

The Remstar M Series PLUS is not data capable, except for compliance (no details). The Remstar M Series PRO and the Remstar M Series Auto are fully data capable, and with either the Pro or the Auto, the software and card reader become very useful.

The Resmed S8 Elite 11 is also fully data capable and has software and reader that will give you detailed data, as will the Pro and the Auto in the Remstar M Series.

Oh, my apologies. I completely meant the M-Series Pro - just a mid-afternoon brain fart typo!!

I have $10,000 in insurance cash to pay for any additional equipment (Ontario Pharmacists Association = a good plan to be under!), including battery backups, so I've been thinking of just going with the S8 Elite II and it's (more expensive) DC adapter etc;. I really like the ability to just monitor data directly on the machine, so that feature pushed the S8 Elite II to the top of the list. Combined with the fact that it's quieter, it just seemed like a better choice.

I know people are PASSIONATE about their machines, and for good reasons! Just wanted to make sure I was picking some decent equipment.

I have a definite preference for the Resmeds but you really couldn't go wrong w/either the Resmed Elite or the Respironics Pro for therapy. They are both great devices providing excellent therapy.

Well, shoot.

I picked an incredible DME - very professional, informative and friendly. The salesperson immediately recommended the S8 Elite II and the Swift LT.. both exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, when she went to get my machine from the stockroom they were completely out of stock (shipment hadn't come in yet). She apologized profusely and promised me I'd have the machine by the end of the week.. and even offered to come in Saturday on her day off to give me the machine if I couldn't make it in during the week. Great service!

I've got a Fisher & Paykel machine on loan right now.. it's a SleepStyle 238.

All in all, the experience was so easy it isn't funny! Now, I don't have "my" machine.. but I've got "a" machine.. and that's exciting enough for me!!

I really (really, really, really, really) like the Swift LT. Honest to goodness, it's like I'm not wearing a mask at all. Aside, of course, from the fact that the straps on top make it look like I have a big blue bow in my hair..

WOO HOO! Just back home with my S8 Elite II!! They gave me a nasal mask that's covered by ADP too - the Meridian Nasal Mask. It looks kinda crummy.. Of course, I purchased my Swift LT on top of this all. I'm surprised I can't find this Meridian mask anywhere online (it's made by Resmed). Even cpap.com and cpapauction.com don't have it listed anywhere..
