I'm new...

Post by LynneL » Wed Mar 04, 2009 11:57 pm

I'm so glad I found you! I've had my machine for about a month and am just getting to the point of wanting to have the mask on--somewhat looking forward to the air. And I came into this with a terrible memory. Will I be able to look forward to my memory improving? Geez I would like for that to happen. Count me in as a willing and grateful member of this club...thanks to you all.

Hi Lynne, and welcome. I'd also post an answer to your question, but I can't remember what it was right now

Welcome Lynne! You have every reason to be optimistic that your memory will improve with therapeutic cpap treatment. Just having sleep that is not repeatedly disrupted and your brain getting all the oxygen it needs is enough to help your thought processes. How much you improve has somewhat to do with if the oxygen deprivation was severe or longstanding and did any damage.

Everybody's different. I am markedly better than before my OSA was treated - but it has become apparent that I plateaued before reaching my peak. In my case, the oxygen deprivation must have done a number on me, as my scans show several microvascular lesions on my brain.

Maybe you'll be one that gets it all back. Let us know how you do as time goes on.

Kathy

Hi Lynne--welcome!!! We are glad you are here. My Memory improved greatly after a few months of CPAP. It was after I started using it consistently every day. I was so happy to be able to function better at work!!! as well as at home.

Post your machine, mask, and pressure in your profile so others will be able to help you when you have a question. There is a wealth of knowledge out there for you!!!!

Carrie

This statement brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. This statement tells me that you will not be joining the masses who slip into denial and decide they just aren't going to mess with all this.

Congratulations, and welcome to the winning team!
