Post by One Tired Puppy » Thu Jan 22, 2009 1:21 pm

From Sleep Review magazine

Reggie White Foundation Releases Educational DVD

The Reggie White Sleep Disorders Research & Education Foundation completed an educational DVD about obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and is making it available to anyone who has an interest free of charge.

Funded by a grant from the National Football League (NFL) Retired Players Association. the DVD. titled “When It’s My Time, I Want to Die in My Sleep,” was sent to the training staffs of all NFL teams to help raise awareness among players and staff.

The Reggie White Foundation was founded shortly after the NFL hall-of-famer died at the age of 43 from complications of sleep apnea.

Thanks for the video link, RipVW. I just watched it. It's a good video.

Since the DVD videos are free maybe we should all get one and give it out to friends/family who we think may have sleep apnea or give a copy to doctors office.

My doctors office is in a clinic with several doctors. In the waiting room they have a big screen TV that plays different health issues and how to check for them etc. This would be a good video to play on their screen for the patients waiting for their appointments. I think I will request one for this purpose.

I requested a copy today. A fellow employee was diagnosed with severe SA, over 60 apneas/hr. He was given an M series A-PAP with smart card over 6 months ago. He is not using it because of the learning curve and being uncomfortable with his FF mask. I can not get him to work on his problems. Guess he feals that at age 39, if it has not killed him, he can continue life as is. He is a sports fan and this video might tip the scales towards working a little harder on his problems.

Bill,

I just ordered a copy of the DVD to have put in the waiting room of the medical clinic where my family doctor is.

I hope others order their free copy to give to a friend or to be played in a medical clinic waiting room.

Where did you order the DVD? I looked all over the site and viewed the online video, but I can't find where the DVD can be ordered.

Go to RipVW post above and click on the video link. That will take you to the page with the video and on the upper right corner in the side bar click on "Contact us" It will open a place to insert your name, email, phone # and place for message. I just asked them for the free DVD to give to a friend or to put into medical centre waiting room for patients to view while waiting to see their doctor. I just received this email back from the foundation.

I'll be glad to send it out to you. Interestingly, I had a heart attack
just over a year before being diagnosed with OSA and, of course, Reggie
White had a fatal heart attack during a severe episode of apnea.

My father had a stroke during an episode ... it led him into such a decline
in his health that he eventually died. Your friends would be wise to comply
with their CPAP therapy.

Best regards -
