Camping with CPAP

Post by Dormir ce soir » Fri Feb 13, 2009 2:09 pm

I am new to this site and was diagnosed three years ago with severe sleep apnea. I use a Res Med Mirage Swift II Mask together with the Rem Star Auto M Series CPAP device. My question today concerns camping. I have a MIT 3-in-1 jump start 12v Power Station (200 cranking amps/500 peak amps/Kragen Auto Parts) together with an inverter (155w/Radio Shack) and a DC Cord that attaches to the CPAP and the other end to the inverter. With the key in the car's ignition I slept 7 hours and figured out that I could sleep for three nights in my SUV. However, this setup is not generally suitable in most cases since I have camera gear and other equipment. Can anyone recommend a non-complicated and easy to set up method (and type of equipment) of employing the use of the CPAP/mask in a tent for both short term (2-3 days) and long term (10 days or so)? I am not a super bionic woman so something heavy like a Marine Battery would be out for me. I am good at following directions but since I am not familiar with certain type of equipment you might recommend or where to purchase it I would appreciate it if you would simplify the information for my humble but simple brain to process! I am very appreciative for any help and advice you can give me. Thank you.

Resperonics offers an 18 pound 12v cpap battery about the size of a lunch box that is easy to carry around. For me it is good in the tent for a solid 3 nights plus. I am planning on finding a way to plug it in after 3 nights, so I can go 3 more. Available from cpap.com, compared to other solutions a good bargain.

Good Luck,

I use the CPAP.Com battery pack and get three nights and with a 75watt inverter recharge and the whole package is SMALL.

Not sure of total weight maybe 3# ?/ -BUT- if the camping area has a bathroom with power I can plug-in and recharge or use inverter to charge from the car..

I used a 12 volt car battery with a cig lighter attachment, not the one in your car though or you may be walking.
