BTW does respironics send sales reps to talk to doctors? I think my doctor told me he believed that about the machine because a sales rep told him that, I assumed he meant someone from respironics, but I may not have understood who exactly he was talking about.

You got fantastic results with your numbers that night. Your auto certainly did not run away in reacting to anything, since it found nothing to react to at straight 9cm of pressure. So you might want to leave it as it is for a week or two in order to see if those numbers hold up. There would be nothing wrong with trying a lower minimum pressure in a few weeks to see if you can tolerate a lower pressure and keep good numbers. Nine cm is pretty low, though, so unless you're having trouble with swallowing air or something, you might want to just leave it alone.

If you continue to have trouble with daytime sleepiness in spite of good numbers and good sleep hygeine, you may want to talk to your doc about what else could be causing your troubles beyond sleep apnea.

Thanks for the comment. These are the typical numbers I get *every night* and yet I still wake up choking and gasping for breath at times. The machine does not record it happening in the "flags" area, so I don't get it. Yes I have another sleep disorder, or so my doctor says, which is narcolepsy so probably the daytime sleepiness is going to be around no matter what I do. I just wondered if something is still off with the cpap treatment because like I said I wake up choking but the machine has not recorded anything and sometimes has not even responded.. There seems to be a lot of variables I'm trying to sort out.

But my original post was about the "run away" pressures when the bottom number in the range is set lower, I guess lower than optimal for me. I suppose I could dig through the old downloads and try to find some of those. I've been keeping them for almost a year now.

Also I'm wondering why I see on the download where it has raised the pressure but it did not mark anything in the flags,,,so why did it raise the pressure? It must have sensed some breathing event, then why didn't it mark it in the flags area?

Did you have any choking/gasping events last night?

I'm wondering if the pressure "bumps" (changes) are disturbing your sleep. I'd suggest trying it in straight CPAP mode at 9 or 10 and see how it goes. I've had a theory about the body's subconscious reactions and being resistant to APAP pressure changes.

Neither did I understand. What does "that" refer to? Or mean? Did I miss something?

I don't remember why I was pulling the mask off last night, but I would guess that is why. I have been thinking about setting it on straight CPAP and see how that goes. Obviously having this big range is not really any benefit anyway since it stays within a few numbers anyhow.

It was regarding Den saying my doctor was wrong for thinking that the machine will go where it needs to be if you set a wide range on the APAP.

As for why the machine tested higher pressures, it may have sensed something that made it test to see if a higher pressure would be better. When it found that the higher pressure didn't change anything, it settled right back to 9 cm after its little test.

If it were me, I would see if I felt better in CPAP mode, straight 9 (or 10), like Den suggests.

Could the choking be GERD related? Just a guess.
