Screwed

Post by NoSlak » Tue Jan 20, 2009 5:16 pm

Well I just got to Dublin , Ireland and my APAP broke. It just started turning on by itself when I hooked up an adapter to the power cord/ converter. It ramps up then ramps way down and the air stops flowing somtimes. Really could use some help on what to do here, I have 10 days left.

I really don't know, but maybe there will be a compassionate DME that will loan you a cpap machine for the next 10 days. You may have to pay a fee in advance but they may return the fee when you return the machine? Hope you have a credit card on you.

Take care, and I hope this will work out for you.

Wow. What a pain that must be! Sounds like that power adapter isn't supplying the right power (maybe?).

bugger! if you purchased medical travel insurance, check with them to see if they can assist with contacts and/or costs, however be aware that many insurers these days cover zip unless its something they deem to be "really dire". plan b-begging sounded like a great idea. good luck!

dont the new machines already compensate for overseas power? I thought they did and all you need is a plug adapter and not a power adapter. I havent been in europe since I have had my cpap , but i thought theycompensated automatically

Kiralynx, went to AIr Products and begged. he hooked me up with the same machine sans the humidifier and came with a euro power pack, thank you so much. My vacation is saved.
I just can't let the machine break or they charge me 1600 euro for it. Amsterdam tomorrow but I don't think I'll be taking it since I don't want to risk killing the machine.
Thank you , again.

Kiralynx, I'm impressed. Is this just good research, or are you also in the business end of (international) Cpap?

Just good research! I could wish I were in the business end of it! Then I could get an employee discount for my "stuff"!

When my husband and I travel, we make up a notebook with our travel routes, maps, etc. We include pages of information on important stuff like

bookstores
vitamin shops
natural/organic food stores
and now, local CPAP stores

That way, if there's something we forgot to pack, or something gets broken, we can restock suitably. The notebook also includes a diary of our travel and serves as a memento of the trip.
