Leak rate?

Post by randyd501 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:14 am

I am using the Resmed S8 Auto II.
My leak rate hoovers between .40 and .50 using a FF Quatro Mask constantly adjusting it and sometimes use nasal pillows when I can tolerate it. MY AHI is around 4 and APAP set at 11 min 20 max
Is the leak rate acceptable? I do sleep on my side

Look in the paper work that came with your mask. It will have a table in it showing the leak rates that is designed into the mask. I no longer have the paper work for my mask or I would check it for you.

Is the mask setting in your machine correct?
Have you done the "Teflon tape fix" to that mask yet? If you DON'T do it, it will feel like that mask is leaking EVERYWHERE (but it's actually leaking out of the elbow in the front of the mask).
Go up to the Search function and search on the word "Teflon"

Other than that, your leak rate is too high......should definitely be less than .40 and more like less than .20.

When you say using the teflon tape do you mean applying it to where the hose from the machine connects to the mask..wrap it around that connection? What about from the machine exit point and the hose..that too?

I'm talking about using plumbers Teflon tape on both ends of the elbow that comes out of the front of the mask. You pull the elbow out of the front of the mask (might have to apply a little thumb pressure with your other hand to work it out) and then you pull the gray hose connector off the other end of the elbow. Make about four wraps around each end (there's kind of a groove there to wrap it in) and then shove them back together. Might be a little stiff for awhile, but it'll quit leaking.
You shouldn't have to do anything with the hose at the machine exit point.
