Remstart Pro 2 w/C-Flex

Post by tdm5032c » Sun Dec 21, 2008 11:54 pm

Okay, so my father in law has been on CPAP for a long time. I just found out that he has the Remstar Pro 2 CPAP machine w/c-flex. It has a smart card in it, but does anyone know if it records anything other than compliance data? Is it capable of more detailed information? I played with it and couldn't seem to access any other information. Not even pressure. I had to put it in the clinicians menu to access even that. He has had this machine for about three years and that was the last time he had a sleep study done. He has gained a significant amount of weight since then and is now trying to lose it, but he struggles consistently with the sleep and does not do well with his machine. If it is data capable, we could play with the machine at different pressures and find one that works for him, but if it isn't, he needs to do something else or get another machine in my opinion.

Let me know if any of you have used this machine and know about it. Thanks!

Tracy

The Pro 2 records the data you need - but won't show it on the LCD. You need the Encore Viewer (or Pro) software to get the data.

Yes, Ozij is correct. I have a Pro 2 - my first machine. I can get reports off it and used it to titrate myself over about a month's time. I most recently used it just over a month ago for about a month.

There are many of us with this machine on the forum. Just make sure it is the Pro 2 not the Pro. The Pro tank (not a 2) doesn't give any decent data.

If you have the software for your machine, you can read his card. Just make sure you don't mix up the cards as there is some problem switching cards between "tanks" and m series machines. That can be easily done by a colored paper clip in the hole with a tag on it for example.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. It is definitely the Pro 2 model. I've got the software now and will have the card reader pretty quick. I will download his data for him so he can see how things are going. He's not doing too well on it and he think his pressure probably needs to be different than it is. Thanks for the help!

The Pro 2 is the worthless father of the "M"eries, it works for a living and unlike it's lazy offspring provides full data 7 days a week, never takes the kid's on vacation. Jim

Tracy,

Your father lucked out. He got a fully, data-capable machine when others were getting lesser models.
Did he happen to get it through the VA?

The Pro 2 was my first machine (May 2005) and it's my sentimental favorite. It "spoiled" me for straight CPAP pressure, and consequently I've had to set my Autos to single pressure, too.

It'll tell you/him how well his therapy is (or isn't) working.

Tracy, you might contemplate swapping machines with him for a week, so he can "auto titrate". I did that with a friend of mine who'd been off the hose for 18 months, but was recognizing he needed to get back on. We checked his data after a week, tweaked his settings, and sent him home with a new mask, revved up and ready to hose.

It was kinda weird being back at straight CPAP with no flex, but I managed to sleep just fine. And in return, he gave me a backup tank (same as what your father has, but not data capable) that he found at a thrift store for $20. Now I have a backup machine in case of emergency.

Cheers,
B.

Also, how is your father's weight? I find that if I put on weight I need to go up in pressure and if I go down, I reduce it. I started at 262 pounds (5'11") and at 11. I went down to 225 and had the machine at 8.5 with a 2 AHI. I went on a 10 day trip, put on 16 pounds and had to raise the pressure to 9.5 after seeing my AHI rise to 5 AHI at the old 8.5. I'm on my way to 195 pounds for sure...proably will be able to drop the pressure even more. Hope this helps.
