OSA pays off (Stock, that is)

There can be benefits to anything if you look hard enough.
Has anyone been paying attention to the apnea related stocks in the stock market?

Check out rmd and resp and tyc.

This is one of the few benefits I have had from having OSA.
For fun, check out the charts and see how you would have done if you had bought in when you were dx with OSA.
There is probably still a great upside to these stocks.

Thanks Tom.

I felt this industry was exploding, but didn't think about the financial/stock side of things.
Good info.

Thanks again,

About a week after I was diagnosed and started to hear from all of my friends who either had been diagnosed or suspected OSA, I went out and bought a little of "one of those stocks" for my IRA. I can't say I'm unhappy about that! Of course, we're still talking nickels and dimes in my world...

I wonder if there are 2 companies in the field that would work well for pair trading?

Wow, if I only had $1,000 free to throw into Respironics... They're doing better than any of the mutual funds in my 401k.

Pair trading? I suggest two pure plays for sleep apnea treatment, Respironics (RESP) and Resmed (RMD).

What a great thread. Thanks for starting it, tomjax.

When I had a Medtronic pacemaker implanted 5 years ago I was so impressed with their technology & excellent follow-up, I bought a few shares (MDT). I'm still impressed with both the pacemaker & the company. They both take a lickin', but keep on tickin'!

Anyone investing in stocks in this segment, though, needs to be aware that these companies are extremely susceptible to the often ridiculous lawsuits brought by the plaintiff lawyer crowd. They're constantly trolling for "victims" afflicted with real or imagined problems caused by one of these companies' products. If the plaintiff lawyers can create a class action lawsuit, easier now with the multi-nation nature of most of the companies, huge damage awards (or out-of-court settlements) can have real impact on stock values, so anyone investing in these stocks should be prepared for the potential of a real roller coaster ride.

And of course as always the caveat:
