OT .....wan'a get high????

Post by carbonman » Sat Sep 20, 2008 6:13 pm

A rite of summer always includes atleast one trip up Mt.Evans.
Mt.Evans is just west of Denver. It has the highest paved road in
the lower 48. The ride starts at Echo Lk.,10.1K' and ends at the summit, 14.2K'.

I thought I had waited too long. A ride up Mt.Evans, anytime of the year, is a
grand adventure. I have been rained/snowed/freezing rained on everytime I have done it.
Today, intermitten thunderstorms forecast, it will be a gamble.
I lucked out. I got a little pop-corn snow on the way up.
I raced the pop-corn snow/rain on the way down.
Leaving the parking area at Echo Lk. lodge, 52degF.
Arrival at the summit, 35degF.
Come on and ride along.

The rain caught me about a mile from the car and the road was completely
wet when I got to the car.....perfect.

I love cycling.

Awesome Views !! thanks for shareing. Makes me miss the hills in West Virginia and the roads through Virginia to get there.Florida is great but takes getting used to the flatland.Luckily i like to fish.

I love Mt. Evans. Remember the drive up when I was a kid. Once we got about tree line, I got the sh&t scared out of me....I thought we were gonna fall off the mountain without any trees!

I miss Colorado so much, and just love when you post these pics and let us see how everything is looking. (moved here 3 yrs ago to help my folks, but I get really homesick!). Mt. Evans was one of my favorite locations for a day out, especially in fall. Thanks again for the pictures and the "trip"home.

When I was a very young kid, we took my grandmother, from Alabama, up Mt. Evans.
She put a blanket over her head and wouldn't look.

Mt. Evans is a magical place, no matter how you get up there.
I have climbed all the peaks that makeup the Mt.Evans massive.
I have climbed it, ridden my bike up it, skied up it.
It never fails to provide fantastic adventure when you get up there.

Very nice pics, Carbonman!
Looking at them, I could almost feel the chill of the wind in that kind of weather.
Your passion shows throught it all!
It's simply great to see how you took your destiny back ito your hands ( and bike!)

I've never been to Mt. Evans, but your pictures surely remind me of the Alps in northern Italy,
from where both my parents come from.

Cheers!
