Here we go again...CPAP and airline travel

Post by Nenetx2004 » Tue Dec 21, 2004 11:39 am

I know I've seen this on the forum and I should have printed the information out. Didn't someone put a link on the forum to the FAA regulations that states that a CPAP is a medical assistive device and isn't counted as carry on luggage? I promise to print the info and not ask again!

Hi Jeanne,

I know I've seen it also but I can't find it. It might have been on TAS.

Here's a couple links i Googled:

http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/rules/20011029.htm

http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/publicat ... sabled.htm

http://www.dotcr.ost.dot.gov/documents/Acc/disabled.pdf

Hope one of these helps
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

Here's something:
http://www.tsa.dot.gov/public/interapp/ ... l_1057.xml

The important part (for us) states:
The limit of one carry-on and one personal item (purse briefcase or computer case) does not apply to medical supplies, equipment, mobility aids, and/or assistive devices carried by and/or used by a person with a disability.
That wording is such that it's not clear whether you have to consider OSA to be a disability, but I think it's good enough to make an argument. Maybe print out that webpage and take it with you, just in case you get hassled about it.

I should have read further:
Disability-related items permitted through the security checkpoint include:...
supplemental personal medical oxygen containers/systems and other respiratory-related equipment and devices
I think we're covered!
