Replacing Filter.

Post by admiralross » Wed Aug 06, 2008 12:31 pm

Hello All!

I have a Respironics M Series. I'd like to change the internet & external filters. There is a lil screw that is holding the housing. I need to remove that screw. Don't have the necessary hardware to do so. What kinda screw driver or allen wrench do I need?

Thanks for your time & attention,

It is a Torx screw. I think either a size 6 or 8. I know the one on the case is a size 10. I don't remember for sure but it is a small one. Someone posted the size a while back and there was a discussion about that filter but I could not find it using the search and it has been a while since I bought mine. As I remember some one wrote Respironics about cleaning it and they replyed that we were not even supposed to know it was there and was not supposed to be maintained by the end user. I do clean mine even though they threatened to void the warrenty if we did it. It does seem to be a more open filter that the one on the blower so don't know if you could replace it with a blower filter (trimmed down in size) or not.

Well I asked. The DME sent me a nice fat package w/ extra cushions for my mask. A new mask, filters & tubing. They gave me a big apology because they didn't send me the replacement materials in a timely manner. They were behind 6 months. Finally got finished moving a few weeks ago an had time to open up the package & look around.

BTW: They provided the filters too.

The foam filter on the back of the M requires NO TOOLS.
Using thumb & forefinger pinch the foam & pull to remove.
The fine white filter is then easily removed. When replacing the white filter the ribs face the inside.

Thanks I'll give that a shot.

The filter I was refering to is the filter to the cooling air to the electronics not the filters to the blower. It is way down on the bottom of the case. Held in with a torx screw. I can't find it listed in the parts list. Since you said it was held in by a screw I assumed that is what you were asking about. The blower filters are not held in by a screw. It is a grey filter but smaller than the grey blower filter and a bit more open in texture. Mine gets really stoped up after 2 or 3 months. Even though we are not supposed to clean it it could cause the electronics to overheat and cause premature failure.

Na, Babs I got mine at Sears & Rarback. A Torx is a allen screw with Fins! I don't know if Harbor Freight has one that small or not. The one you need comes from the "sex shop" and is 8 inches not a #8.

Ahhhhh..... I see now. Yup, definitely need to ask the Dad-Unit for that one. He OWNS Sears & Rarback. If you doubt me, I'll send you pix of his garage.

Thanks!
B.
